Manual talk:Restoring wiki code from cached HTML

Latest comment: 6 years ago by Mainframe98

I added this page today, but it was immediately removed by someone without explanation. Please explain yourself here! Jdpipe 08:13, 26 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Jdpipe, again, I'm telling you nicely, ask on the talk page of Manual:Backing up a wiki to let people think about including the content on that page, not writing an article that is even on the main namespace, when it should be on Manual anyway. And I'm not deleting it, it's on here for further community discussion. --Diego Grez return fire 02:12, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
OK so your problem was the fact that it was on the main namespace. Fine... we have the page now located on the Manual: namespace. The content is very different from the information about 'backing up a wiki'... essentially it is about 'what to do if you didn't backup your wiki' so it's appropriate to have a new page that is linked from the 'backing up' page. Hopefully all happy now? Can I urge you to open a discussion on new page's Talk page in future, before unilaterally moving new pages to 'talk' pages. It's really very discouraging to someone who's spent an hour working up some information for the public good... Jdpipe 02:30, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
I know you must have used a lot of time (although it's not very impressive). Well, I still think this should be merged. --Diego Grez return fire 02:33, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
I will be very happy to receive code patches and improvements from you. I very much disagree that it should be merged, I think they are very different topics. Jdpipe 02:34, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
And now you've locked the page for controlled editing. Great. Forget about it. Jdpipe 02:37, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
What? I didn't do anything. --Diego Grez return fire 02:40, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Ok, maybe it's some default thing about the 'Manual' namespace. I can't make changes without them first being reviewed by someone... but this wasn't the case before on the 'backing up' page...? Jdpipe 02:42, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
No, you're free to edit. If you still have troubles, let me know and I'll do the edits for you. --Diego Grez return fire 02:44, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
The edits currently don't go live until they've been 'sighted' and 'reviewed'. I now have a 'draft' tab between the 'manual' and 'discussion' tabs... Jdpipe 02:45, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
They're now. I've sighted your editions. --Diego Grez return fire 02:46, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
So this is some control feature that means that I can't change this page without someone later authorizing my changes? Is that necessary... I mean... are you actually verifying what I rwrite to be true? Jdpipe 02:47, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yes. --Diego Grez return fire 02:50, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yes, yes, yes, or Yes, no, no? Jdpipe 02:51, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

No and yes. --Diego Grez return fire 03:06, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

This tool, viewcached.com, may be of some help when using Google, Yahoo, Bing, Internet Archive, and in addition, Coral CDN, Gigablast and WebCite.

link to https://www.toolserver.org/~diberri/cgi-bin/html2wiki/ seems to be dead. Could someone provide working link?

I don’t know for sure if it’s the same tool, but on toolforge, there’s https://tools.wmflabs.org/magnustools/html2wiki.php. Mainframe98 talk 06:54, 28 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
