- I'm not sure. @Nemo bis: wrote "This is not a help page, with all those technical details and code references".
- I would like to merge it, to get the technical-requirements for Mentions into the translated FAQ page, but it is fairly technically-dense, and I don't want to be reverted...
- @Kephir: too. Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 21:17, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
- This page actually needs to be merged with Echo (Notifications) and subpages, in some way. The "static" (historical) parts should be left in ns0, the technical explanations useful for development should me moved into Manual (or Extension) namespace so that they continue to live. And of course, the user-facing alive explanations should be moved from ns0 to Help. --Nemo 09:45, 19 February 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, please. In fact, I am not happy with it being moved into the Manual namespace — I wrote it specifically for end-users (i.e. wiki users) who wonder why their pings are at times not delivered; I did not just write it for people setting up MediaWiki on their own. — Keφr 15:21, 19 February 2015 (UTC)
- Recently I was thinking about expanding pages related to mentioning users including this one. And I must admit I am also not very convinced with these information being in the Manual namespace. On the other hand it doesn't really make sense to merge contents of this page into Help:Notifications IMO. Help:Notifications/Notifications_types#Mentions provide already quite some information targeted to "non-technical" users on what to do to actually mention a user. How about moving (some) parts of this page e.g. to some subpage of Extension:Echo? Such page could be focusing on how the mentions work looking from the other end (ie. how code proceeds) and aim to explain why pinging could fail. I would also suggest to not include references to source code of Echo. Although they might help some people who read PHP to grasp the way Echo works even better but they're prone to get outdated quickly. Basically those should be checked and possibly updated whenever Echo's source code changes (which is quite often). Outdated links are not really helpful and could even be misleading. What do you guys think? Leszek Manicki (WMDE) (talk) 13:44, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
