Skin customizations

Some of the contents on this page needs to be rewritten to reflect that skin customisations might alter the location or other aspects of the appearance of, e.g. the sidebar, the personal (user) toolbar, etc. I recommend introducing these elements by name, and then stating that the default skin used in MediaWiki sites X in one location, Y in another, but warns that use of a different skin can cause this to change. robchurch | talk 04:48, 22 November 2006 (UTC).

Link colors

Is it mentioned anywhere that (if the default skin is used) blue links indicate an article is available and red links indicate an article does not exist yet? --oKtosiTe - talk 19:19, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Localsettings.php

The links to the old LocalSettings.php page on meta:LocalSettings.php should now be changed to mw:Manual:LocalSettings.php, and as the page is protected. I simply can't do it. - Foxhill 03:15, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

User Links

Can I add a new link to the User Links in my own wiki? Black Rose 06:37, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

The text says

"edit (may be view source if anonymous editing is enabled, the page is in the MediaWiki namespace or the page is protected)"

Shouldn't it be "...anonymous editing is disabled..."? hello test from outsider ....???

It doesn't work!!!

I can't create my own SideBar ???? ... I modified the MediaWiki:SideBar as written in the guide but nothing changes!!!

It's not possible to customise the toolbox through a message at this time; items in this list are generated based on the page context, so it's not too reliable to slurp random links in. robchurch | talk 17:11, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Feeds in Toolbox

Hi, I'm changing the style of my wiki, but somehow the feeds(rss, Atom) are messed up in my toolbox File:Feeds.png and i don't know why... do i fix it via main.css°? has anybody an idea!? greets Moonlight 08:39, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Navigation in lowercase

Since a few days my own wiki is completely lowercase. that means the navigation on the left and the navigation on the top is no more the way it used to be. this also effects the search. the search does not differentiate between FooBar, Foobar and foobar. What did i customize (accidently) and how can i restore this?

Jumptonavigation and Jumptosearch - Getting rid of them, please...

Because I've spent several hours looking and still haven't found the answer, I am doing everything I can to withhold my seething criticisms of how difficult it is to find support at MediaWiki for such simply configuration and customization steps such as relocating specific portlets by name and altering default placeholders from the initial install.

Okay, here's my simple question: After you install MediaWiki, every page comes with a "Jump to: navigation, search" header on every single article you create.

I would like to delete it. How? Please and thank you.

As a matter of interest, should you choose to defend the ease of navigation around MediaWiki, I would challenge you to find the answer to my question in less than ten searches without prior knowledge of where it is located. Set $wgDefaultUserOptions['showjumplinks'] = 0;

Alternatively, if you need more flexibility, open /skins/MonoBook.php and edit the code as needed (searching for "jump" in the file will get you to the spot you want). There might also be a way to do this using CSS.

Finding the code-hacking solution was pretty simple once I figured out what you were referring to (I hadn't really noticed those invisible accessibility divs before), although finding the simpler, variable-setting solution took a bit of puzzling and Googling. (Most of my "searches" were in the code and on Google; in a bit of foolishness on my part, I didn't actually search for "jump" on here until after I wrote the rest of this: I then found this page as the ninth result of the search.)

Admittedly, the documentation here tends not always to give a step-by-step walkthrough (walkthroughs can have problems of their own, of course), and isn't always able to predict what visitors are really looking for (no mean feat when it comes to people looking to make customizations!), but if you want to change the layout of your wiki, you should be prepared to go into the skin files (or be familiar with CSS, which I am not very). (If you think that there should be an easier way, then this is a case of your needs not coinciding with the developers' goals.)

Hey, thanks a lot; that's by and large the most polite and helpful response I've had here! I apologize for the overbearing tone, it's just that I've become quite jaded when it comes to expecting anything useful out of "help" sections in almost any administrative internet environment.

I eventually did actually find the solution that you're referring to, however it still doesn't work and I suppose more investigation will be required on my end to figure that part out. --Randall00 18:13, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Hrmm...any known reason why it wouldn't work if I added $wgDefaultUserOptions['showjumplinks'] = 0; to LocalSettings.php? I even changed DefaultSettings.php to see if that would work and I'm still getting those jumpto links. --Randall00 19:21, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

$wgDefaultUserOptions changes the default settings for new accounts (and for people who haven't logged in); existing accounts will retain the preferences they were created with unless changed manually. You might be able to change all existing users' preferences with the userOptions.php maintenance script. Also, keep in mind that users will still be able to restore the jump links through their preferences (though there are no doubt ways to prevent that too, if you wish). —Emufarmers^(T|C) 01:06, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Toolbox Links

Everywhere i've read it says that the links can not be customized. However I ran an update the the latest Mediawiki version, and the Upload file link is sending it to wikipedia!! and not not my own. How did this happen and what do i do to fix it (without starting over).

I think that in articles like this:

people should have an interface to filter applications that meet certain criteria that they choose.

Sidebar Navigation section needs updating.

In the admin section, it tells the wiki admin to change MediaWiki:Mainpage-text to change the link name of the main page. in the most recent release that page is MediaWiki:Mainpage-description --67.241.177.245 15:52, 28 December 2008

ESXi 3.5 - resizing disk of VM

1.Remove all snapshots from your VM.

2.From the command line run:

vmkfstools -X 256g /vmfs/volumes/4ac531c0-8e095fcb-dee5-00215e7116c0/QubeServer.test/QubeServer.vmdk

3.Boot the VM from GParted Live CD and resize the partition.

It will not allow you to create a drive bigger than 256GB:

vmkfstools -X 257g /vmfs/volumes/4ac531c0-8e095fcb-dee5-00215e7116c0/QubeServer/QubeServer.vmdk

Failed to extend disk : The destination file system does not support large files (12).

Draft tab?
