Also, don't say "For a better video playback experience we recommend a html5 video browser." when I am using Internet Explorer 9, which is a html5 video browser (but possibly one that people around here don't like so they chose a different streaming codec). --80.219.253.49 09:55, 11 December 2012 (UTC)

Bad software

I installed "QuickTime Components" of WebM on my iMac believing that it might improve Flash performance. Automatic installer used as per website. I do run MacOS 'Snow Leopard" that has problems with Flash (google for this). However, installing "QuickTime Components" did nothing for the Flash problems and buggered up YouTube clips (cut out sound). Had to remove WebMcomponents in order to restore YouTube performance. Do you know better solutions for Leopard? Because otherwise there's nothing we can do about it, this page doesn't claim the solution to be perfect (and Firefox/Chrome are the two first solutions). You could report a bug about it though. --Nemo 18:04, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

iOS

Are you serious? You cannot play Wikipedia media files on iOS? Maybe it's time to look for a more modern format to offer important media in?

I guess this is for non-tech users as well

but in this case terms like "Desktop Safari", "ogg", "HTML5-video-tag" and "webm" should be at least explained (even a single word like "file format" could be sufficient) or a link to a simple explanation should be added. -- Rillke (talk) 20:51, 8 July 2013 (UTC)

Edit request: would someone with permission please rename this link. The text should be “WebM QuickTime Component.” The link does not lead to QuickTime, nor is QuickTime a downloadable browser/player.

Already have QuickTime

I already have QuickTime on my computer. There is something wrong with your diagnostics if it can't detect that I already have QuickTime on my computer. And I can already watch HTML5 video without QuickTime. That's how I watch YouTube using H.264.

How is it better a better user experience than YouTube where HTML5 video can be watched without downloading add ons? QuentinUK (talk) 13:03, 16 March 2015 (UTC)

Can't play any videos

I could not watch videos on the Wikipedia. Following the instructions here, I downloaded an installer for WebM. I re-launched Safari and they still didn't work, this time because Java was out of date. Java is always out of date. I downloaded the latest Java and relaunched Safari again. It still doesn't work. Now it says "Application Blocked. Click for details". The camel casing of that title is astonishing. The message below, lacking a period, states "Your security settings have blocked an untrusted application from running". What application? Java? WebM? I click Details, which produces a window full of console text with the message "Exception in thread "Thread-18" java.lang.SecurityException: Can not verify security pack jar". Wow, so useful. Googling it turns up a single hit on the entire internet, which is a SO question with no answer.

Anyone have this working?
