This is the application for sponsorship to attend Wikimania 2013, Wikimedia's international conference. Awardees will receive a scholarship to pay for registration, hotel, and roundtrip travel to Wikimania in Hong Kong, 7–11 August 2013.

This is not a scholarship for university study. Applications not obviously related to the conference will be discarded.

Applicants: please carefully consider your financial need, that there are limited funds available for sponsorship to attend Wikimania, and that many applicants do not have the financial means to attend Wikimania without this opportunity. Thank you.

Partial scholarships edit

In addition to the full scholarship option, this year a limited number of partial scholarships are also available to subsidize up to 50% of the estimated air fare from your nearest international airport according to Getting to Hong Kong.

Application agreement edit

If I am awarded and accept the partial scholarship, I will pay the remaining amount in order to attend Wikimania 2013.
If I am awarded and accept a grant, I will be responsible for obtaining a travel visa, if necessary, prior to travel (please see visa requirements for travel to the Hong Kong).
If I am awarded and accept a grant, I will be responsible for the cost of airport transfer, incidentals, and meals during the conference.
If I am awarded and accept a grant, I agree to either a) use the travel booking service recommended by the Wikimedia Foundation, and paid for directly by the Wikimedia Foundation; or b) book my own travel at or below the cost estimate provided by the Wikimedia Foundation, and provide a receipt to the Wikimedia Foundation in order to be reimbursed for the exact cost.

Privacy edit

All information contained in this application will be reviewed by the members of the Wikimania Scholarship Committee. All personal information will be held strictly confidential by the Committee, the Wikimedia Foundation, and Wikimedia Hong Kong.

Applicant Rights & Consent to Data Processing and Transfer

I as an applicant for a Wikimedia Foundation ('WMF') scholarship relating to my participation in the 2013 Wikimania conference hosted in Hong Kong, hereby acknowledge and affirmatively consent to the following as a prerequisite to the consideration of my 2013 Wikimania scholarship application ('Application'):

(a) Any personal data or sensitive personal data that I submit as part of or in relation to my Application (collectively 'my Data') may be accessed and reviewed by (i) WMF; (ii) official Wikimedia Chapters, a representative list of which can be found at: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_chapters ('WM Chapters'); and (iii) members of a scholarship committee made up of Wikimedia movement members, a representative list of which can be found at: https://wikimania2013.wikimedia.org/wiki/Scholarship_committee ('Scholarship Committee'), for the purposes of evaluating my Application.

(b) Any Data that I submit as a part of or in relation to my Application may be collected, stored, used, modified, communicated, archived, destroyed, or otherwise processed (collectively 'Processed' or 'Processing') by WMF, WM Chapters, Wikimedia CH ('WMCH'), and members of the Scholarship Committee. My Data may be retained by WMF, WM Chapters, and/or WMCH until I request in writing to WMF that my Data be destroyed or for as long as required by applicable law.

(c) My Data may be transmitted to or from WMF in the United States, WMCH in Switzerland, members of the Scholarship Committee in the country which they reside, and/or WM Chapters in the country which the chapter is based.

(d) The Data that I have submitted is true and accurate to the best of my knowledge. However, if any of my Data is inaccurate, I understand that I may request that my Data be corrected by emailing wikimania-scholarships@wikimedia.org.

(e) I understand that I may ask WMF if my Data is being Processed and may request that WMF provide information about: what of my Data WMF currently holds; the purpose of Processing my Data; the categories of my Processed Data; who the individuals involved in Processing my Data are; and who the individuals who are designated to receive my Data are. I understand that I can request any of the information enumerated in this section by emailing wikimania-scholarships@wikimedia.org.
