Just to keep feedback together - there is some feedback on the thread at http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/multimedia/2014-March/000151.html.

I think this proposal might be improved by expanding the usecase section. Specifically it might be good to look at what types of 3D models are currently freely available on the net that could "reasonably be used for an educational purpose" (To quote commons:COM:SCOPE), along with what types of models are not currently available but might be available in the future (e.g. Via users making them, or from glam partners). Well certainly not necessary to go too in-depth on that, it would be good to have some idea of what format is currently most popular with our target audiance, as well as how often certain tricky to support features are used (e.g. External textures). Last of all, for the required deliverable, "Fixing and updating the raster image generator application to be able to sustain a viable solution without the help of third party plugins." - that's a little unclear. Raster image generation (ie screenshots) would be done on the server side. Its perfectly ok to use third party programs (if they are freely licensed, and of sufficient quality, etc) on the server side. Its not ok to use browser plugins that the user would have to install, but that wouldn't be the raster image generator application. Bawolff (talk) 12:50, 26 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
