How do IETF meetings get stuff done?

As discussed on IRC, I don't think the section that includes, "The meetings [...] primary goal is to reinvigorate the [working groups] to get their tasks done, and whose secondary goal is to promote a fair amount of mixing between the [working groups] and the [working group areas]." helps your argument at all. How is this different from, say, Wikimania, which certainly helps "reinvigorate" and "mix" us. I would like to see a more focused discussion of how IETF actually ensures that it "gets stuff done" in their meetings. Is part of the answer that attendees include those who are actually empowered within their own organizations to implement the recommendations of the working group? cscott (talk) 17:19, 21 September 2015 (UTC)

cscott: "get their tasks done" is a key part of what you quoted. The process is set up to give people the opportunity to build consensus. There's no guarantee that participants will be motivated to build consensus. So, my question to you: are you motivated to build consensus in our community, or are you looking for some manager to side with you against any dissenters? -- RobLa-WMF (talk) 04:15, 26 September 2015 (UTC)
