Extensions without localisation support

Hello. Thanks for your suggestion of labelling all extensions unsupported by translatewiki.net as such, I've just finished doing so. Of course I might have forgotten a couple pending extensions on Gerrit and some extension pages are not complete enough to be able to track this aspect. A separate task would be to ensure that all extension pages have up to date download and install instructions and that links to SVN (still thousands) aren't superseded; but if you have more suggestions on extensions I overlooked I'll be glad to hear them. Thank you again, Nemo 11:06, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, cool to see this happen. Edit: The only thing I do not understand is why this is supposed to be a download information. However, I can live with it. --kgh (talk) 11:21, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the hint on Extension:PubmedParser

Thanks for pointing out the need to have allow_url_fopen = 1
in my PubmedParser extension. I've updated the code so it also works on Wikis which have allow_url_fopen = 0
. Bovender (talk) 17:28, 12 February 2013 (UTC)
- This is awesome, since the PHP setting prevented this extensions from being use. I just tested it and it works perfect. :) Thank you for improving the extension. kgh (talk) 19:12, 12 February 2013 (UTC)
out-comment of AYAH instructions on Extension:ConfirmEdit

Ack, adding that stuff was as much for the benefit of gerrit reviewers as anybody else (and I only put it there on advice from Nemo). Hopefully reviewers will think to look at the wiki source. — Strix t 14:33, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hmm, that advice seems a bit unusual. However we indeed have source and version history for this page. The reviewers for your change are pretty smart people according to my experince, thus I am sure they will figure it out. :) There is also still the option of Nemo reverting my edit. Thanks for the EXPAND request. I updated Extension:ZeroRatedMobileAccess's infobox and main text, and it is pending review from the looks of it. ABaso(WMF) (talk) 18:30, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
- Well, it was not exactly me adding this request. Just been the last one to touch the page thereafter. Thanks for looking at it. I just added some more stuff to the page and reviewed it. Cheers kgh (talk) 18:54, 25 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi,
First, thank you for following my effort, checking my page versions, and fixing the infobox. The effort moves forward every day, and I'm excited.
I'm wondering how I should attribute the original extension auth_remoteuser? I started with it, but it's being largely re-written block by block. Any suggestions are welcome.
Cheers, Rob Robert.Labrie (talk) 12:05, 18 September 2013 (UTC)
- Heiya Rob,
- you are welcome. It is nice to see enthusiastic people around. :)
- Well, you should definitively attribute within in the
NTLMActiveDirectory.php
file. Doing it as it is done for this extension will not be a bad idea. In the author line you could probably do an'author' => array( 'Robert Labrie', '...' ),
where...
will automatically be changed into "and others" on "Special:Version" when installed. - On the docu page here on the wiki you already stated and linked to the original extension. That is imho ok and there is nothing more to do in that respect.
- Cheers kgh (talk) 17:26, 18 September 2013 (UTC)
ifexpr edit
editThe following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Hi, in Help:Extension:ParserFunctions##ifexpr, you deleted my edit. But I did that because in the first part you compare: with ; so I think it is better and more consistent to use the same comparison also in the second part: / . RefCallback hook

I left a message about the RefCallback hook at Extension_talk:BedellPenDragon#RefCallback_hook_35042. It seems like this glitch should be simple to fix, but I couldn't figure out how. A hook might indeed be a good method, if one could put it in the appropriate place. Cheers. Leucosticte (talk) 01:48, 31 October 2013 (UTC)

Hello. I would like to begin translating Extension:Education Program to Spanish language, but I need a Translation Admin or someone with permission to mark it for translation. Could do you do this? Thanks. Zerabat (talk) 17:30, 1 November 2013 (UTC)
- Heiya Zerabat, actually I cannot since I am not a crat on this wiki. You can ask for permissions here. Cheers kgh (talk) 17:37, 1 November 2013 (UTC)

German translation of Help:VisualEditor/User guide
editThe following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Something is causing the translations to revert back to English on Help:VisualEditor/User guide/de. The English version doesn't appear to be missing any <translate> tags, but the first edit I made changed dozens of messages (which is strange, since I was using Special:Translate, and that only allows translation of a single message). Also, Fuzzybot restored the English messages after you reverted them. Am I missing something obvious here, or is this a problem with the source page? Lethosor (talk) 22:00, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
- Ouch, this indeed seems to be a bit messy. Admittedly I am not longer familiar with the translation interface etc. Perhaps there is a bug in the software or something else went wrong while administering the translations. It is probably best to ask one of the translation administrators for guidance and help. kgh (talk) 09:02, 15 November 2013 (UTC)

Currently links using the "semantic-mw" prefix result into http links, rather then https. Not sure what the process to changing this is. Jeroen De Dauw (talk) 19:07, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
- Just go to Special:Interwiki and change the URL for the prefix to
https://www.semantic-mediawiki.org/wiki/$1
. This is an admin action and why I cannot do it myself. Cheers kgh (talk) 20:14, 23 November 2013 (UTC)- Do you know who to poke to get this done? Jeroen De Dauw (talk) 17:31, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
- Oops, on a "regular" wiki I would have answered: Poke yourself since you are an admin. I just found out that the
interwiki
permission is not set on Wikimedia wikis - which is somehow quite understandable. I just created bug 57513 since this is the way to go here. kgh (talk) 20:46, 24 November 2013 (UTC)- It should roll in these days: see here. kgh (talk) 16:37, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

Composer on Wikipedia

Someone just pointed out to me that there is no article on Composer on Wikipedia. Given that SMW and whatnot will soon be using it as standard installation mechanism, it'd be cool if someone could write that. Hint hint :D
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Composer_%28PHP%29 Jeroen De Dauw (talk) 17:32, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, it's missing somehow. Did you think of someone specific to do this? :D Well I do not see problems on enwiki, but on dewiki composer will not have any chance, I guess. kgh (talk) 20:49, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi Kghbln, please check the pending changes at Extension:GeoGebra, as you did before in Oct. 2012. Thanks in advance. Rudolf.Grossmann (talk) 14:14, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
- Heiya, sure. Actually I have done so and did some changes to the page. It will be nice if you added the license for this extension to have certainty. Cheers kgh (talk) 14:30, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you for quick response and for the improvements. About license: I will ask Zbynek who is also working on this extension. Rudolf.Grossmann (talk) 19:54, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
- You're welcome. Just add the appropriate licence as soon as it is known. Cheers kgh (talk) 07:52, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
- Markus Hohenwarter advised me to use GPLv2+. I added a license line to the template at Extension:GeoGebra and asked Zbynek to add comment lines to the files. Maybe we should add a copy of the GPL to the GIT repository? Rudolf.Grossmann (talk) 20:43, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
- Great, this would have been the assumed license if nothing was added. It cannot hurt to provide a copy of the license with the software as well as adding respective comment lines. Cheers and thanks again. kgh (talk) 20:49, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

So, I committed Extension:ROT13 to GitHub. It wasn't so bad. As mentioned earlier, I went in expecting some serious punishment; however, I came away feeling as though I'd been only mildly disciplined by a moderately-skilled and halfhearted dominatrix. It left me unsatiated and yearning for more. Therefore, I'm going to work on what is apparently one of the less-documented areas of the MediaWiki codebase, external storage! Surely I will come away from that experience bruised and whimpering, brutally chastized but having secretly and perversely loved every moment of it. If it were otherwise, I would have spoken the safeword (or safe phrase), "I'm switching to a different open-source project." Leucosticte (talk) 13:17, 15 December 2013 (UTC)
- I knew I wouldn't be too bad and I am happy that it did not mistreat you too much. :) Yeah, there are unfortunately a lot of only thinly documented areas. Nice that you want to tackle it!
- Cheers kgh (talk) 15:56, 15 December 2013 (UTC)
- As it turned out, I was able to use Revision::newFromArchiveRow(), ContentHandler::getContentText(), and Revision::getContent() to avoid needing to write my own code for handling external storage. I was shuddering at the thought of needing to set up my own external storage system for testing; but fortunately the programming was already done by others and I needed only make use of it. Whew, that was a close one! (It's always unpleasant to find out you just unnecessarily reinvented the wheel with an inferior design to what was already out there. That's basically what happened with Extension:EmailDeletedPages.)
- By the way, you definitely deserve that Tireless Contributor Barnstar. Thanks for cleaning up some of those extension pages; I'm learning to just copy and paste some of your work into new extension pages. The only problem is, now that the new stuff will be in Github, how will you internationalize? Hmm... Leucosticte (talk) 08:47, 16 December 2013 (UTC)
- Lucky you this time. To reinvent the wheel is a tedious task one should really avoid. Sometimes it still happens but this should really be an exception. Probably asking in IRC is a good shot for finding out certain information in a lot of instances. I find the people out there pretty helpful.
- Before I forget: Thanks for the compliment. It is always good it people value one's work. :) kgh (talk) 17:51, 16 December 2013 (UTC)

- Oh, I thought I had to add you as a committer. Leucosticte (talk) 08:34, 17 December 2013 (UTC)
- I will just fork an send a pull request. :) kgh (talk) 09:42, 17 December 2013 (UTC)
- I still have to approve it, though. What if I get hit by a bus? Who will approve your pull requests then? Do you want to be a co-owner of these repositories in case that happens? Leucosticte (talk) 08:28, 25 December 2013 (UTC)
- Let's hope that this will not happen. However, there are a lot of reasons not to be online for some more or less longer time spans. Thus it is always good to have a fall-back solution. So yes, you may add me as a co-owner if you like. My only problem will be that I have only very limited knowledge to assess code changes since I am not a programmer.
- In case no further development is done or may be done a cloned fork of the code will be the best solution. kgh (talk) 11:03, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
- Oh noes, I've been naming all these repositories MediaWikiFoo when they should have been simply Foo. When people clone them, they get a folder with that superfluous "MediaWiki" in front. I had just wanted to make sure I distinguished those repositories from any other Foo out there, but it turns out it's unnecessary because they put /leucosticte/ in front anyway, e.g. https://github.com/leucosticte/MediaWikiInterwikiMap Fortunately, renaming the repositories turned out not to be nearly as difficult as I thought it would be. Leucosticte (talk) 22:50, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
- Oops, actually I could have told you. Since I did not git clone one of your extensions, I did not stumble over this as a reminder for me. Cool to know that renaming a repo is not very difficult. kgh (talk) 11:06, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
