New user registration doesn't copy the detected language into their preferences

1. you open a wiki not being logged in.

2. It correctly detects your languages using ULS

3. You register.

4. After logging in the wiki starts to display pages in its default languauge.

How to make it copy detected language into your preferences while registering?

A separate question. Is it possible to automatically copy into your preferences the currently selected by the trigger language?

What version of MediaWiki and ULS are you using? I thought this used to work at some point, but I was told it didn't. Related: gerrit:120475 (last comment/question).

You can test this wiki yourself. The default language of the wiki is "jbo". After registering click on any link (e.g. the logo) and see that the wiki is now in its default language.
