ISBN2Wikipedia is a linkserver for links to Wikipedia pages via a given ISBN.

Current state

edit

Up to now the service is stable but not optimized for speed. The links are based on Wikipedia dumps that may soon come out of date and only some languages are supported.

You can either query links to all available languages:

Or links to specific languages, which are currently:

Multiple languages can be combined by specifying a comma-seperated list of languages.

Some languages may me more up-to-date then others.

How to use

edit

To use the ISBN2Wikipedia webservice, you need a client. For demonstration there is a page that can be used as a client to look up Wikipedia pages that cite a given ISBN:

The page uses a JavaScript library for querying SeeAlso services (like ISBN2Wikipedia). The library is based on JQuery and every skilled JavaScript programmer should be able to use it for its own applications. Feedback is very welcome.

A very experimental Bookmarklet is provided at http://tools.wikimedia.de/~voj/seealso/isbn2wikipedia-tooltips.php . Drag the link to your bookmarks, click on it if you are one a Wikipedia page with ISBN and point your mouse over an ISBN. The layout is broken and won't be fixed. JavaScript developers are welcome.

Background

edit

ISBN2Wikipedia implements the SeeAlso linkserver protocol, that is based on OpenSearch Suggestions and unAPI.
