@Bluerasberry: I've created tasks and CC'd you for most of your points--thank you for all the help with this! Unfortunately, your last point, "disallow humans" challenges the limits of my closed mind and I can't quite make myself comfortable with the idea. You want a workaround for metrics being difficult, which I can empathize with, but I think we'd be better off building something like a new "gather" equivalent, rather than support a degenerate case of editorless programs. This could be a page in the existing app which supports collections of articles, that would be easy to do. I like that an article collection could somehow be built collaboratively, then used in conjunction with a series of events, for example as a "greatest misses" list.

Adamw Thanks for the feedback on the "disallow humans" proposal. Actually, Amanda provided me a link to something which is similar from a utility standpoint, so perhaps there is no longer a need for that part of my request due to it being fulfilled by another project. Check out Wikipedia Tools for Google Chrome by Thomas Steiner at Google. I am still playing with this, but as I understand - it provides a function that given a list of Wikipedia articles and a range of dates, the tool will generate sums of pageviews, edit counts, and other things. I have not gotten it to work yet but it meets my need for that.
