Interactive elements at English Wikipedia
editI asked at WP:Village pump (miscellaneous): What are the current interactive elements that readers use in Wikipedia articles? (ie. excluding editing, and for all users (IP and logged-in)). Here's the compiled results:
- Basic
- Clicking text links
- Images
- Clicking thumbnails of images to expand
- Clicking videos to expand and play. E.g. w:Caprice No. 24 (Paganini)
- mw:Extension:ImageMap - E.g. w:Moon landing
- Audio
- Playing audio files - music samples, historic recordings, etc. E.g. w:L'Orfeo#Music
- IPA pronunciation recordings. E.g. w:Urdu
- w:Help:score with music playing
- Scrolling
- Scrolling sideways for oversize data-tables and panorama images. E.g. w:Nuuk#Cityscape
- Hover
- Tooltips - extensively uses the
title=
attribute, for link-targets, affordance clues, etc) - mw:Reference Tooltips
- Hidden elements
- Clicking [Show] - to un-hide the collapsed elements in navigation-boxes (and occasionally elsewhere, E.g. w:Help:Collapsing tables)
- Tables
- w:Help:Sorting - click the arrow-image to sort data-tables. E.g. w:1896 Summer Olympics medal table#Medal count
- Maps
- m:WikiMiniAtlas in coords - Click to expand, and then drag/zoom/click the image. E.g. w:Koror
- OpenStreetMap gadget - Click to expand, and then drag/zoom/click. (Annotations, layers, mousewheel-zoom). E.g. de:Koror (Palau) - activated on almost every Wikipedia except English?
- Other
- mw:Universal Language Selector - select font (default or OpenDyslexic)
- Logged-in users only
- On Commons
- Commons:Help:Gadget-ImageAnnotator (see prior discussion list about enabling it on En.WP)
- Commons:Help:Gadget-GallerySlideshow
(See also: Multimedia for details on planned changes/development work regarding image/gallery viewers)
I thought this might be helpful to place here. Feel free to add to the list, or move it elsewhere. Quiddity (talk) 20:13, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
