Talk:Wik2dict
Hi I really like the tool. But i want to use the data from the wiki within stardict. I know there are some conversion tools to convert it. The problem is that those tools only run under linux and not under windows. Can you write a phython converter what is able to convert it to stardict format? let me know at ruud at nitthoes dot com.
Note I believe that unmodified the results that this scripts generates are illegal to distribute as I can see no attirbution on the responses. This should be easy to fix. 03:41, 21 Aug 2004, 67.81.184.150
- Hi, can you elaborate? :) I don't understand what you mean with "illegal". Would it be necessary to add a list of editors to the article? BTW, it's better to use the discussion page for this stuff :) Guaka 14:44, 24 Aug 2004 (UTC)
Sorry I'm new to wiki, so I apologize for putting this on the main page, but I also wanted it to get some attention as I really would like to distribute the results of this script. My weak understanding of the gfdl is that there must be some form of attribution. Adding "This article is licensed under the GNU Free Documentation License. It uses material from the Wikipedia article "Articlename"." might be sufficient as I would hate to have to download the whole db just to generate an author list. I think that one sentence should be enough for due diligence. Without it the dict server would just provide answers with no attribution and for now it would probably be easier to append that to every article than to hack the server to do it only for the wiki dict. I'd really like to see this change as I have some thoughts on how to use the data. 15:49, 28 Aug 2004 67.81.184.150
- wik2dict 0.3.2 now adds an article "FDL.txt" and some more text to the database information. The dicts that are included in Debian (like dict-foldoc, which is GFDL) neither show license text for every query. Guaka 18:15, 1 Sep 2004 (UTC)
MacOS X Tiger
editHello, I've got the dict on OS X, but i am looking to get it working in Dictionary in Tiger... There are already New Oxford American Dictionary
XML parsing
editSince the sql.gz files are no longer available, is there an update for the new xml files?
- Not really. I saw there is a tool to convert the XML to an old-style SQL database dump. I'm now working on something that allows me to access dicts on my Nokia 770. Or on something that allows me to access the xml.bz2's more directly. Not sure yet how I'll do it. Guaka 20:18, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- You can now get 0.4.0BETA at http://www.industree.org/guaka/index.php/Wik2dict ... but, it doesn't work for big dumps. I only tested it on small ones, and it is very beta. I hope to do some coding next month. Guaka 01:43, 19 March 2006 (UTC)
