Eliciting input from users who register
editAre there plans to ask users where they're coming from, or what made them decide to register? I'm assuming that as the project is currently framed, any information about where the participant came from is either automatically assigned (in the case of A/B testing) or gleaned from the referring page id? Although I'm only guessing there; I don't see it explicitly spelled out in the doc. Lots of online signups include a short inline survey for new registrants, which asks them something like "Where did you hear about us?" and gives a short radio-button list of options ("I'm part of a class that's studying Wikipedia", "I attended an edit-a-thon"), including a write-in option. Do we plan to implement something like that? Jmorgan (WMF) (talk) 19:36, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
- Just for reference, Lennart took a pass at this via a multilingual post-registration survey as part of ACIP (see the research pages). It was far from perfect, but we've gotten some data about this kind of thing. We also have some recent referrer data (onsite only) on the account registration page which we'll be publishing soon, and can share with you right now if you like. There may still be a need for a new post-registration survey, but we've actually got quite a few points of reference. Steven Walling (WMF) • talk 00:45, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
