I am working with a group which is starting to use a wiki to exchange information and files. We have successfully uploaded files but some of those were just test files and we would like to be able to delete them. I have not been able to find any information in the User area about deleting uploaded files, or even about moving them to some "Deleted" area. I recommend expanding the pages about managing files to include this kind of information.
Regarding article messages
editHey, I've been looking all over for information in this and the Meta about messages that appear at the top of each article where they are applied. Now, I don't know what they would be called, but I'm talking about things such as "This article requires cleanup", "This article needs expanding", and so on.
If anybody could either point me to the relevant page, or could give me information on how to get each message, that would be excellent.
Thanks! ~GingerNinja
- They are called 'Templates', and I am also trying to find out how to use them. In the online Wikipedia, they rely on code found in the Template Namespace . Go here more information on namespaces, it lists the 18 namespaces that come with the mediawiki software. I have tried copying the code to my localhost wikipedia, but it doesn't work very well, because it relies on information from other pages, which personal wikis obviously don't have. I believe that online wikis also possibly have code outside of what you get with mediawiki. Good luck! -gaidheal1 (contribs) 15:54, 5 May 2009
How to delete user MediaWiki?
editHow can I delete my MediaWiki user pages?
Global table of contents
editI would like a title page with a "global" table of contents. Not necessarily the sections that are on that page (as the title page would probably have no sections), but a TOC that refers to pages, and sections on those pages, within the Wiki - like a TOC you'd find at the beginning of a text book. How can I accomplish this? I've seen the documentation on page-based TOCs, but not those of the global sort. Thanks
How do I close my account with clod twilight. I decided that I don't want to be a part of this following 4 the reason it is not convenient and i don't want a account(I also dont have my own computer). the site doesnt have a close account on any of the pages or in my profile. i should have the choice weather i want to continue using this program.
thanks again
Uploading
editI have enabled uploads on my wiki and also allowed for additional extensions, however when I try to upload certain files (doc., docx), I'm told that the file is corrupt or the extension isn't supported. Any idea why this is?
- One cause may be the use os foreign characters (ç, à, Á, etc.) in the filename - remove them. Alternatively it may be due to the MIME type - please read Manual:Mime type detection. Hamilton Abreu 15:11, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
FAQ answer on Templates
editI added the following sentence on the FAQ page, but I suspect that the link could be done in a better way than a URL. Can someone help?
"Also, there are Special Templates available for use on other wikis. See w:en:Wikipedia:TRAN#Templates for more information."--Dthomsen8 14:30, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
