  • I really love the heading parameter, it makes the information on a map much more usefull.
  • The Plug-in should also work after upload, because the GPS in cameras are not very exactly (especially when you just turn it on) so it would be nice if there would be an easy way to move the positions of own images on a map.

I agree with both points. This widget should be deployable on the File: page too. -- NeilK 17:31, 5 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Geolocation extension - storing information about desired photos

edit

Hi, I'm adding the OSM to UploadWizard. If there is a location information, a map with marker is displayed. If not, empty map is displayed with information: "Hey, your photo does not contain information about location. Please click on map and tell us where it has been taken" and user can click on it and choose location of the photo which she or he has uploaded. This has been already done - here is a link to the GitHub repository: https://github.com/lukaszkostrzewa/wiki and I will give a link to the demo in a few days.

I would also like to add a new step with map and markers of desired photos. There will be information: "There are some places that have not been photographed near your location. Would you like to take a photo of them?".

Here comes the question: where should I store information about desired photos? In a database or on some wikipage?

Thanks in advance for any advice :) --Lukasz1703 (talk) 22:31, 29 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps you should look at what WikiLovesMonuments Netherlands did to compile a list of monuments they wanted photographed. They used toolserver to pull data from something (not sure, maybe wiki pages), which then turned it into a Google Map. This approach will not scale to the whole world, but it might be a start. Thanks for continuing to develop this. NeilK (talk) 04:46, 1 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Return to "UploadWizard/Geolocation" page.
