Official languages
editIt would be useful, I think, to denote in some way which of them are official languages for some state. --Nemo 19:04, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
- I've added a column for misc. notes, and noted the only official language in the list, but I don't see the value in 'official' as it is a country dependent concept. Some countries have 'official regional language' lists, and many languages on this page have that status. Many of these languages are used when dealing with the government officers in the city, despite not having any official status.
- A region / country column would also be useful, as would a column to link to the Wikidata item.
- I created this page as part of a rant at d:Wikidata:Project chat#Language support. John Vandenberg (talk) 13:10, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
- It doesn't matter if the threshold for languages to be officially recognised by a state varies across states, IMHO (and I don't mean to discuss what's an "official language", I just used en.wiki's terminology). It's not nice to be pulled into political fights so having reliable/official sources is a comfort. --Nemo 13:30, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
Needs updating?
editThe following languages now have Wikipedias:
I assume this means MediaWiki now "recognizes" these languages. Can someone verify that those entries can be removed from the page? - dcljr (talk) 12:45, 14 November 2020 (UTC)
