Again? Any reason not to merge this page to Requests for comment/Structured data push notification support for recent changes? --Nemo 00:46, 2 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Ha, didn't realize that existed (even though I remember reading it... >.<). That one is out of date (half of it is already implemented) and less specific, this RfC is more focused on the WMF should do. There is a good amount of overlap though, so does it make sense to merge and try to revive a somewhat-dead RfC or just start a new one? Legoktm (talk) 12:25, 2 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
One reason could be that the old one is in Architecture_Summit_2014/RFC_Clusters. :P Doesn't matter what's merged to what but IMHO in some way one of the two has to be closed. --Nemo 12:30, 2 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
Talk:Requests_for_comment/Structured_data_push_notification_support_for_recent_changes#Outdated. If no one objects, I'll just replace it with this one in the RFC Clusters list. Legoktm (talk) 09:23, 4 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
I'm not hearing any objections. Maybe go ahead? Sharihareswara (WMF) (talk) 01:16, 8 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Kafka and other queuing systems?

edit

I see that ZeroMQ and UDP are the only two listed here. Is that because others were considered and rejected, or were these the only ones considered? I'm particularly thinking about Kafka since we're investing a fair bit in making it work for other purposes, but there might be others that also might have benefits here. I don't think we need to evaluate every possible queuing tech, but we may want to look at the ones that we already have operational experience with. ZeroMQ is still(?) used by EventLogging, and Kafka is on track(?) as our udp2log replacement. I don't recall if there are any others in/nearing active production use that would be relevant here. -- RobLa-WMF (talk) 02:38, 9 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Mainly that I hadn't considered it. I discussed it with Ori in #wikimedia-dev today and I think it makes sense to consider as an option. I'll add a section for it shortly. Legoktm (talk) 13:04, 17 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
