unable to read graphic

edit

On the innate immunity system page, I am unable to read the first graphic. I have tried everything that I know. Any suggestions? Also, if this is the wrong place for my to ask my question, please let me know. Thanls. 173.174.122.119 (talk) 15:44, 11 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi, could you clarify a bit more? Is this about translating Reading/Web/Advanced mobile contributions to Hindi or something else? Ainz Ooal Gown (talk) 09:11, 12 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Regarding wiki account settings

edit
Account settings normally include the ability to change one's password, particularly if/when one's accounts & devices have been hacked. That option doesn't appear to exist here & since all my stuff got compromised, I'm concerned about all sites, including this one, to change all passwords & activate 2 step verification where available. Have I missed something somewhere? Stardust dragonryder (talk) 02:19, 23 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Advanced mode: where to set?

The page says:

To turn advanced mode on, go to your settings page on the mobile site and select "Advanced contributions mode".

I cannot find this "advanced mode" in WP mobile app. Or is it just the same WP in mobile view? Misibacsi (talk) 07:35, 23 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi, this mode is not available in the mobile app. You'll need to use the mobile website to enable it. Ainz Ooal Gown (talk) 07:37, 23 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. That's why I could not find it... :-) Misibacsi (talk) 15:26, 23 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Here: <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Reliable_sources>

"Breaking-news reports often contain serious inaccuracies. As an electronic publication, Wikipedia can and should be up to date, but Wikipedia is not a newspaper and it does not need to go into all details of a current event in real time. It is better to wait a day or two after an event before adding details to the encyclopedia"

A day or two? If I was a nefarious person, this policy would be a gold mine. Yeah it's not a newspaper but could we have something in place to at least draw attention to inaccuracies?

For instance the 2020 Iowa Caucus has many candidates on the Democratic side but only five of the candidates are shown. This is incredibly misleading and arbitrary. It's the internet in the 21st century, there's no reason to not include all the candidates. It goes against the spirit of allowing others to be informed in their busy lives. We rely of Wikipedia as a commons of knowledge. 2604:CA00:178:5361:0:0:466:13E6 (talk) 16:43, 6 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

This should probably be asked on The English Wikipedia’s forums. RhinosF1 (talk) 16:45, 6 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia should have the dark mode which would facilitate the readers and would give them a strain free reading. Kumarium (talk) 17:08, 8 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

To me dark mode is one of the best advantages as it enables reading ease. This lulls as a bit of a defect ;I'd really appreciate this attribute Obeten Emmanuel (talk) 13:06, 10 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Regarding edit

edit

Can someone help me? One of the hindu mythology page has been locked due to vandalism and it still contains fake information which couldn't get edited. Also some pages that I edit even with proof gets reverted back. Why is that? How can I correct this? 103.79.100.130 (talk) 17:30, 21 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi! I believe you should ask these questions to those who revert your edits directly, or on the article talk page. Do you need instructions with detailed explanation how to write to individual wikipedians? SGrabarczuk (WMF) (talk) 11:34, 24 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Breaking words

I don't appreciate seeing words broken at the end of the line, like of-ten. I'm disabling the advanced mode to avoid it.

Actually, I realized that this behavior is something new rolled out by the Minerva layout! It has to have a way to disable it! Esperfulmo (talk) 17:06, 22 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Mahmudmasri!
First of all, we've been working on a problem that might be related. When the software update is rolled out, I'll ping you again and ask you to check if the broken words disappeared. How does that sound?
In the meantime, could you please give more details on where are the distracting word-breaks? Is that about page titles, or content, or maybe edit summary? Is that in the main namespace (articles) or special page namespace (e.g. page history)? SGrabarczuk (WMF) (talk) 15:34, 25 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
This is a regression tracked in https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T248415 and not related to advanced mode. Some on-wiki styles started loaded.
The short term fix is awaiting an enwiki admin's approval : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki_talk:Common.css#Auto-hyphen Jdlrobson (talk) 15:48, 25 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

An I missing this, or is there no way to do it. In visual edit, no button, and in source edit I only see the top paragraph. Using Chrome on Android. Newystats (talk) 18:38, 27 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

OK, I've worked it out. Use source editing in the section above the desired location of the new section. It would be good to have an add a new section button. Newystats (talk) 19:10, 27 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Newystats are you referring to a Talk page or an Article page? AHollender (WMF) (talk) 21:17, 27 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Watch list

edit

How can I see my huge watchlist article by article rather than change by change, in mobile? PamD (talk) 08:58, 11 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

@PamD unfortunately this is not possible within the Advanced Mode. So you need to turn off Advanced Mode in order to do that. AHollender (WMF) (talk) 14:27, 12 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
I have switched it off and still only see the change-by-change watchlist. PamD (talk) 23:39, 12 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

I thought this carried over to an extent on mobile. I know it used to at least. Either way, a link in the settings to Special:Preferences from Special:MobileOptions would be appreciated. In the meantime, I'm going to file a bug report when I get home. –MJLTalk 21:11, 30 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Tawan Silva Mendes (talk) 01:04, 5 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Olá, sinto muito responder em inglês. Eu nao falo português.
Thank you for sharing this idea with us. You are right to suggest that this would be useful, and we will bear that in mind.
Unfortunately, currently, our team is working on the Design Improvements only, and we are just maintaining the advanced mobile contributions (but not developing any further functionalities).
BTW, I encourage you to take a look at the Design Improvements page. What do you think about that project? SGrabarczuk (WMF) (talk) 16:40, 18 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

I used to get the link to the Wikidata property for an article when I clicked the menu button. But I can’t see it now.

What happened, was it removed? I found it very useful as I regularly use Wikidata. Gotitbro (talk) 23:34, 23 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Can you raise a phabricator ticket noting the wiki you are seeing this? That sounds like a bug to me. I am not aware of it being removed intentionally. Jdlrobson (talk) 00:58, 24 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Jdlrobson Can you tell me how and where to do that exactly? I am even seeing this on enwiki and other language wikis as well. Even on a simulated mobile device in Chrome. Gotitbro (talk) 13:50, 24 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Relation to 'normal' modus

edit

On the Dutch Wikipedia, there are complaints/comments about the missing categories section in the default mobile modus. Is it part (or can it become part) of "Next Steps" to add this function also to the 'normal' modus? (A mention when answering would be appreciated.) Encycloon (talk) 09:27, 9 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

How to create a New article on Mobile Mode

edit

Hi Please let me know easy way to create new article in Mobile mode Kasyap (talk) 07:24, 26 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hey @Kasyap there is no special workflow for creating a new article in "Advanced mode" unfortunately. I think the best workflow would be:
- navigate to the URL of the page you want to create (for example if I wanted to create a page called xyzabc I would navigate to https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/xyzabc)
- use the link that says "Start the _________ article"
I hope that is helpful AHollender (WMF) (talk) 15:56, 26 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi, I can't seem to get the link you mentioned. I'm a pretty experienced editor, autoconfirmed, logged in, advanced settings on. I've been switching to desktop mode, editing the URL to remove the "m.', then clicking on the redlink to create it (in tiny font).
Oh, I see the problem. If I use the link you provided it works fine, but if I search in Wikipedia I get a url that doesn't display a link, e.g.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?search=Xyzabc1234&ns0=1
which can be edited to change the /w/index.php?search= to
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xyzabc1234&ns0=1
and then removing the &ns0=1 to get
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xyzabc1234
Better than what I was doing, but a button or revised url would be more convenient. :-)
P.S. Thanks everyone for a very valuable tool! Facts707 (talk) 22:31, 15 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Should be some route to view source of pages

edit

On desktop, clicking edit on a protected page lets me view its source. On mobile it just flashes a message reminding me that the page is protected. AFAICT on mobile the only way to view page source is to manually append ?action=edit which is not very friendly.

Could I suggest that the mobile edit buttons start behaving like the desktop ones? GKFX (talk) 09:31, 29 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Opção de denúncia

edit
