Talk:Citation option in your edit toolbar

Latest comment: 7 years ago by David Hedlund in topic SyntaxHighlight GeSHi

Does anyone know how to install RefToolBar 2.0b on a mediawiki installation? Documentation leads one to Wikipedia Project Page for RefToolBar/2.0. However, since Wikipedia has already installed this feature, their Installation Section only states:

No installation required

edit

RefToolbar 2.0 is now turned on by default for all users on English Wikipedia. You don't have to do anything to install it.

So... there is this big gap in the use of RefToolBar because mediawiki points to Wikipedia for installation and Wikipedia doesn't offer anything. It seems straightfoward, but gathering and creating all the necessary .js pages does not result in a successful installation.

Citation option using Gadgets

edit

The newer versions of MediaWiki is using Gadgets and the instrictions given in the page are outdated. They need to enable the scripts via the gadgets extension. The following things have to be done in addition:

  1. Add the following lines to the gadgets definition. (see Special:Gadgets to see the current definitions loaded and to edit the definition list)
    • refToolbar[ResourceLoader|default|dependencies=user.options,mediawiki.legacy.wikibits]|refToolbar.js
    • refToolbarBase[ResourceLoader|hidden|rights=hidden]|refToolbarBase.js
  2. Create the Gadget-refToolbar.js and Gadget-refToolbarBase.js pages in addition to the MediaWiki:RefToolbar.js page

I am writing this after I have solved this through a number of trial and error steps. So, I am currently unable to write a proper series of steps. If any one can do so, please do and update this page. --Manum56 (talk) 10:30, 20 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

I have followed all of these steps, exported all the templates and js scripts for wikipedia, followed the instructions religiously, and I STILL don't have a Cite link in the WikiEditor toolbar. If anyone can help me, I would be eternally grateful. The site is http://wiki.vvfh.org. You can search for any template or script without logging in and see that they are there. The relevant lines have been added to the Gadgets definition. I am getting desperate. I have got to have the Cite gadget. My users cannot use the old style ref, etc. They need the ability to create cites using the templates.

Vector now inbuilt

edit

Should Vector be removed from the page?

Vector "has been replaced by core functionality in the MediaWiki software (which was added in MW 1.22)". --David Hedlund (talk) 15:00, 12 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

SyntaxHighlight GeSHi

edit

The page says that SyntaxHighlight is required. However, bitnami-mediawiki-1.28.2-0-linux-x64-installer.run comes with SyntaxHighlight_GeSHi, is that enough?

Should the page be changed:

Return to "Citation option in your edit toolbar" page.
