Problems with PDFBook and mw-ocg-* 'xkvutils' not found

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Hi,

I'm trying to add the extension of PDFBook exportation to allow my users to create a PDF compilation of wiki pages.

I've installed PDFBook and Collection extensions. Also I've found and followed some 'HOWTOs' to install mw-ocg-*, redis, parsoid packages and some latex dependencies to make it work, but when the exportation reaches 87% then gives this error:

Generation of the document file has failed.

Status: ! I can't find file `xkvutils'.

I'm installing this in host with Scientific Linux 6.7. The xkvutils and xkeyval packages from latex I had to install it by hand, and it seems that I put it in wrong place... Where should I put this xkvutils files? I don't know which latex path is being used...

Or maybe the right question is, which is the simplest way to make PDFbook work with a PDF renderer?

Thank you in advance, 2001:67C:1148:110:3DD7:C84B:7F3E:AD22 (talk) 16:36, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

xkvutils seems to be an executable file. Is the directory containing that file in the $PATH? Those binaries should usually be installed in /usr/local/bin Check also that its location is whitelisted in case you have open_basedir restrictions. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 14:40, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply,
I found a solution to my problem. It seemed to be more related to latex configuration than the mediawiki configuration. I had to run texconfig and rebuid filename database. 2001:67C:1148:110:9CBD:7435:812:40B5 (talk) 11:06, 4 April 2016 (UTC)

Javascript not working on whole site 1.26.2

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Hi,

I'm new to MediaWiki (and web developing) and I'm trying to set up a wiki http://tptcn.org/wiki on my site.

The problem is that I found the javascript on the whole site is not working, causing the search bar advise and editing toolbar missing, expanding templates not functioning, etc.

Server info:

MediaWiki 1.26.2
PHP 5.6.19 (cgi-fcgi)
MySQL 5.6.29

No errors were showing up in the console, and the <script> tags do show up in the source code. Could anyone tell me why this is happening and how to solve it?

You might need to register in order to test editing it. Here is a test account:

account:testaccount

password:test123

Thank you in advance. Iodizon (talk) 17:53, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

I've created the account, because it didn't exist (maybe it was a different wiki?) and go to edit a page and the toolbar was present and functional. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 15:41, 3 April 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for replying. I've just downgraded the wiki to 1.23, and the javascipt worked. In the MW1.26.2 version earlier the javascript wasn't working. Iodizon (talk) 16:40, 3 April 2016 (UTC)

Cannot use domain instead of ip media wiki v1.26.2

hello, this may seem like a stupid question/issue, but i am unable to change my url from my ip address to my domain name, hosting on a local machine using WAMP and No-Ip redirect works fine but once i have changed $wgServer = "http://xx.xx.xx.xx:8080"; to my domain you are no longer able to login as admin, or any other user, and cannot edit any pages, unless you try to reach it via the ip address, updates appear on both the ip address view and the domain view, happens with fresh install of media wiki and my custom wiki Merlinlcb (talk) 21:30, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

Do you mean that accessing from the domain or IP everything works (pages are loaded, etc) but you can't login if the wiki is loaded under the domain? Be sure you put your domain correctly in $wgServer (without a trailing slash), and you haven't set Manual:$wgCookieDomain. And of course be sure your browser accepts cookies for that domain. MediaWiki/Wikipedia user account consolidation : how to handle talk pages?

Problems after recently updating

After recently updating my PHP and Ubuntu OS to the most recent versions, it seems to have broken a few parts of my wiki.

First the short url for the wiki no longer works. The correct URL is supposed to be:

http://wiki.cefpac.rpi.edu/

but it seems to have been changed to what should be the defaultː

http://wiki.cefpac.rpi.edu/wiki/index.php/CeFPaC_Wiki

Also as can be seen in the second link, the skins file can no longer be found, or isn't working. The widget error messages are new ever since I followed the pages on mediawiki about fixing the skin errors, yet have since changed everything back to what they were originally. Amsdeo (talk) 18:13, 4 April 2016 (UTC)

I cannot access your wiki currently; it does not respond.
I don't know how exactly the update was done, but with these symptoms, I think it was more than only updating the OS.
My guess is that you are missing a file called .htaccess in the webroot. This file would e.g. contain a RewriteRule, which redirects calls to "/" to wiki/index.php and it also contains a part of the short URLs configuration.
Restore this file from backup and most of the issues you mentioned will be fixed! 87.123.54.224 (talk) 20:12, 4 April 2016 (UTC)

Automatic config after installation for version 1.15

Hello all ! I still use the mediawiki 1.15 for my company and it's could be very complicated to migrate (enven in 1.19). I would like to configure mediawiki 1.15 automatically but I find hard.

I saw in the earliers version we can launch maintenance/install.php (from 1.18 I think) and pass to it different parameters. Can I configure the mediawiki 1.15 in a similar way ?? 217.108.83.254 (talk) 10:47, 5 April 2016 (UTC)

The install.php maintenance script does not exist in MediaWiki 1.15.
Usually, you can configure MediaWiki by running the web updater in folder mw-config/ by accessing it with your webbrowser. However, in your ancient version, also this web updater does not yet exist.
Another option to configure your wiki is by manually editing variable definitions in LocalSettings.php. Basically, th web updater does nothing different.
You would not have these issues, if you used a curent version of MediaWiki. Note that, apart from these problems, MediaWiki 1.15 has a huge number of known security holes. Running this version is not safe. For the security of your data, you are strongly adviced to upgrade to a supported version! 87.123.54.224 (talk) 11:49, 5 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks a lot for your for your response but we can't bypass this problem. I expect to update my mediawiki version but in plus, I have got a problem with the maintenance/dumpBackup.php of my mediawiki 1.15 :
PHP Warning:  pg_query() expects parameter 1 to be resource, null given in /usr/share/mediawiki/includes/db/DatabasePostgres.php on line 580
PHP Fatal error:  Call to a member function fetchObject() on a non-object in /usr/share/mediawiki/includes/Export.php on line 30
Meanwhile, I try to import/export the pages+files with the maintenance files but as you can see, it's working properly. Could you give me a solution please ? Haroun al Mouwahid (talk) 13:06, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
I do not know, what you want to do. That makes it hard to help.
What is it that you want to achieve? 87.123.51.230 (talk) 13:12, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
To automate the configuration (post install), I dumped the wikidb. After, on my server test and post installation, I imported the dump et pasted the LocalSettings (with the good passwords etc...) but I yields me an internal error from the mediawiki when I try to access. If i drop the database, I reinstall mediawiki et delete the LocalSettings.php, it offers to me to set up the wiki first ... What does mediawiki change in the system to see if it has already been installed before or similar ???? Haroun al Mouwahid (talk) 13:18, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
If the LocalSettings.php file is not there, then MediaWiki will offer you to install MediaWiki first. That is the whole magic at that point. At least I believe that this is what should happen - in current versions that is how it works. 87.123.51.230 (talk) 13:22, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
OK forgot it, please explain to me a way to export my pages of my mediawiki 1.15. Here is what I did from a server where mediawiki 1.15 is working properly (as root):
cd /usr/share/mediawiki
php maintenance/dumpBackup.php --full --output=file:/tmp/dump_mediawiki_115_pages.xml
PHP Warning:  pg_query() expects parameter 1 to be resource, null given in /usr/share/mediawiki/includes/db/DatabasePostgres.php on line 580
PHP Fatal error:  Call to a member function fetchObject() on a non-object in /usr/share/mediawiki/includes/Export.php on line 300
Idem if I add --conf /var/lib/mediawiki/LocalSettings.php Haroun al Mouwahid (talk) 13:30, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
I don't know, why your installation with MediaWiki 1.15 has problems with Postgres (which you are using obviously). Maybe the version of Postgres is not fully compatible with MW 1.15. Maybe because this Postgres version is to new? However, that's only a guess. Note that MW 1.15 is old and there will not be bug fixes for it. Newer versions of MediaWiki however might already contain a fix for this issue.
If I had to export/import a database, I would not use the dumpBackup.php file, but I would use the executable, which comes with my database tools. For a MySQL database, I would use mysqldump. For Postgres the according tool obvioulsy is called pg_dump. So this would be the tool, I would use. With this tool I would create a database dump! 87.123.51.230 (talk) 14:15, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
Which tables I have to export ? Do you mean I dump the wikidb1.15 then I import the dump "above" (in plus...) the wikidb1.26 ?? Haroun al Mouwahid (talk) 15:46, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
I still don't know, what you want to do.
You asked something with exporting the database, so I told you how I would do that. I have no idea what you need that for.
Generally, when you do an upgrade, you should first create a backup. And for the database part of that backup, you can use the pg_dump tool. Apart from that you will also need a backup of the files of your wiki.
It is all explained in detail in our page upgrade! 87.123.51.230 (talk) 16:06, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
Ok I understatand, I was perhaps not clear. So :
- My first goal was to automate the installation+configuration of the mediawiki 1.15. I saw it appears it's not possible.
- You told me to upgrade my mediawiki version, I told you I would feel like but I find hard to export my pages. I think our missunterstanding is here. In face, I ve got several servers autonomn, each one with the same version of the mediawiki (so 1.15) and appart the configuration of mediawiki (db engine, admin account etc...) everthing is automated. Si each one have a lot of pages to import toward the future new version of the mediawiki
- As I told you, I can't export all my pages with the dedicated tool (dumpBackup.php) because I ve got an error. And in a similar way, I can't just export my pages with a dump of my wikidb database with pg_dump because if I install the MW 1.16, the structure of the databse is not the same, so I can't paste the datas ? I did not try to export only the data without the schema/structure..... Do you think it could work ?
- In the link you ve given to me, the oldest upgrade explained is the MW 1.17.
In all case, thank you for your patience et to take the time to read and answer to me :) Haroun al Mouwahid (talk) 19:14, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
> You told me to upgrade my mediawiki version, I told you I would feel like but I find hard to export my pages
When you upgrade MediaWiki, you can upgrade in place over the existing database, there's no need to install a new and empty wiki and import the old content from XML dumps into there. The upgrade manual tells you how to do this. Basically, take a backup of the database just in case something goes wrong with the upgrade, get a new MW version and unpack it on a different directory, copying LocalSettings.php from the old installation, and go to the installation page (or just run update.php) and the old schema will be converted to the new one. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 19:33, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
You should create a backup so that you have it, if the upgrade goes wrong. If something breaks, which you cannot fix. Then you can at least go back to the backup.
The MediaWiki updater can update your existing database. So there is no need to export and then to import it again. The updater will modify your existing database so that it can work with the new version of MediaWiki.
By the way, you can also upgrade over several versions in one go. E.g. you can upgrade from 1.15 to 1.23 directly, without having to use the versions 1.16, 1.17 and so on in between.
I don't know how complex this update will be, if you have multiple wikis, but basically you should keep them all at the same version. E.g. update all of them to 1.23. If you only update some and not others, things might break.
What you should expect is that you see some PHP errors on the way. That is normal. In this case blank page has more information on how to get a useful error message. Often such an error is caused by an extension; in this case, fixing such errors is as simple as downloading a new version of the extension from mediawiki.org. 87.123.51.230 (talk) 20:21, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
The relevant configuration is in the LocalSettings.php file. This file is largely backwards compatible. That means: You most likely can just continue using the file the way you always had it. You possibly want to do some small changes, like set a different memory limit or something like that, but that is nothing huge. Mostly, you can just use the file the way it is. 87.123.51.230 (talk) 20:30, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
Thank you all for your responses :) So I tried the update.php and I removed any additionnally extension inside my LocalSettings.php but I has not worked, I ve got a new error message.
So I have 2 MW
- MW 1.15 installed from the repository (ubuntu 12.04) and located in /var/lib/mediawiki and /usr/share/mediawiki
- MW 1.26 uncompressed in /opt/mediawiki
Here is how I proceed (as root) :
- cd /opt/mediawiki
- php maintenance/update.php
PHP Fatal error:  Cannot redeclare class SiteConfiguration in /usr/share/mediawiki/includes/SiteConfiguration.php on line 18
(idem if I try with --conf /var/lib/mediawiki/LocalSettings.php)
FYI :
- sudo -u postgres psql -l

Did I forget anything ? Haroun al Mouwahid (talk) 08:03, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
So... ubuntu has some weird (and utterly broken btw) PHP configuration where MediaWiki files installed from the repo are inside PHP's include_path. That, obviously, limits the ability of users to have 2 or more separate MediaWiki installations, even for development. Fantastic.
You'll have to edit php.ini and remove /usr/share/mediawiki from include_path so they do not interfer with your new installation. That will break Ubuntu's MediaWiki 1.15, though. Be sure to restart apache after editing php.ini so configuration changes take effect. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:32, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
I don't have any /var/lib/mediawiki in my /etc/php5/cli/php.ini or /etc/php5/apache2filter/php.ini....
The update update is not working. There is no problem to have 2 separate mediawiki on the same server, by the way, it's recommended when you need to upgrade your version.
Anyone would have an idea ? Haroun al Mouwahid (talk) 13:19, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
It should be work this way at least ? I mean :
My 2 MW :
- MW 1.15 installed from the repository (ubuntu 12.04) and located in /var/lib/mediawiki and /usr/share/mediawiki
- MW 1.26 uncompressed in /opt/mediawiki
How I proceed (as root) :
- cd /opt/mediawiki
- php maintenance/update.php Haroun al Mouwahid (talk) 19:05, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
Please help me !! :) Haroun al Mouwahid (talk) 08:58, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
You should use the same MediaWiki version for all wikis. That means: Do not upgrade one, but upgrade all!
Doing an upgrade basically means that you have to replace the old MediaWiki files with the new ones. You should not create an additional installation! I think that you do not need the files in the folder /opt/mediawiki/ - if they have not been there before you started the upgrade, then you also won't need them now! 87.123.43.227 (talk) 12:52, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
I think the op wants to create a parallel MW installation to test the upgrade before upgrading the stock 1.15 of ubuntu, and that's pretty reasonable.
I'm sure there's an /usr/share/mediawiki in your php.ini. Please execute the following:
php -i | grep include_path
And see if the path is there. Just executing php -i will give you all the configuration, and at the beginning of the output you'll find the locations of your php.ini Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 15:36, 8 April 2016 (UTC)

embedding a spreadsheet

I am trying to embed a spreadsheet(s). The file I have is in Access but I can easily convert it to excel or csv if that is easier. I also need to apply different filters to the spreadsheet on different pages. For example, the "energy" page should only have entries with "energy" as the category (a field in the spreadsheet). 130.253.29.206 (talk) 17:06, 5 April 2016 (UTC)

There is Extension:Spreadsheet, which can be used to display content from a spreatsheet file. Note that I have not tested it myself - the extension page claims it would more or less be unmaintained. There however have been a few commits in the last years. 87.123.22.164 (talk) 17:55, 5 April 2016 (UTC)

Mediawiki 1.16.0 - Display problems after upgrading PHP

Hello

The wiki of our association is made from mediawiki 1.16.0

Our host went from version 5.2 to version 5.5 PHP which caused some problems. The contents are still there but now inaccessible.

Homepage  http://www.gennievre.net/wiki/

Can anyone help us?

Thank you Gennievre (talk) 18:02, 5 April 2016 (UTC)

Upgrade MediaWiki!
That is the solution.
MediaWiki 1.16 is an old version, which has known security holes. Using this old version is not safe. With your PHP version, you can upgrade to MediaWiki 1.26, which will not only close the security issues, which youcurrently have, but it will also make your wiki work again with the new PHP version! 87.123.22.164 (talk) 20:03, 5 April 2016 (UTC)
Thank you.
I will try, as soon as possible, to upgrade my mediawiki. Gennievre (talk) 11:23, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

Mass rollback

Is there an extension or something that could allow the staff on my wiki to rollback multiple pages at once? So we wouldn't have to go through rollbacking hundreds or even thousands of edits one by one when our wiki gets vandalized. Innosflew (talk) 20:06, 5 April 2016 (UTC)

I think there is an extension, which allows to rollback all edits, which a user has done. However, I do not remember its name currently. Extension:Nuke goes to that direction, but it can only be used to delete pages.
The maintenance script rollbackEdits.php should come very close to what you want!
Manual:Combating vandalism has more helpful information! 87.123.22.164 (talk) 20:17, 5 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks :) Innosflew (talk) 20:31, 5 April 2016 (UTC)
I have an other question. I installed an extension called TagAsCategory. My only problem is that doesn't always show up on my pages. It's only few times when it shows up, but it disapears again right after for example I refresh the page. Is there an other extension that has the same functionality as TagAsCategory and more up to date with the latest MediaWiki versions? Innosflew (talk) 20:41, 5 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi I am clean installing MediaWiki 1.26.2 on windows server 2012 r2. And its not loading any stylesheets. The stable release works great but I want the latest features. Also I am using php 7.0. 75.135.152.47 (talk) 01:50, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

See the according section on Manual:Errors_and_symptoms... 87.123.22.164 (talk) 07:56, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
There are No solutions to my problem listed on there. 75.135.152.47 (talk) 18:24, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
My guess is that the load.php script, which is linked in the head of each wiki page, does not return the right stuff. It should return CSS styles, but I guess that it shows something else, e.g. a wiki page or an error message. That is what the page I linked you has a section on - only I cannot link this section as then the spam filter tells me that this link had to be spam... :-( 87.123.51.230 (talk) 18:37, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
It must be something with the .htaccess. I just installed Media wiki on apache2 and it works fine, But my main web server is on IIS and I cant have 2 servers because I only have one IP and port 80 Must be used. 75.135.152.47 (talk) 18:46, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
Yes, that's what I am guessing. To verify this, you should check the calls to the load.php script, which are in the head of each wiki page. I guess they do not return the right stuff. load.php should return CSS styles, but I guess that it shows something else, e.g. a wiki page or an error message.
Is that the case for you? 87.123.51.230 (talk) 19:06, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
I'm fairly new to this, could you please explain how to check the calls. And I have no error messages on the wiki. Just no css, even in the installer. 75.135.152.47 (talk) 20:28, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
With your browser, visit the wiki. Then, with the web developer tools of your browser, view the HTML source of the wiki page. It will contain a few links pointing to load.php with a number of parameters each, e.g. /load.php?debug=false&lang=en&modules=ext.gadget.Edittools%2CcollapsibleTables%2Cenwp-boxes%2Csite%7Cext.tmh.thumbnail.styles%7Cext.uls.nojs%7Cext.visualEditor.desktopArticleTarget.noscript%7Cext.wikimediaBadges%7Cmediawiki.legacy.commonPrint%2Cshared%7Cmediawiki.raggett%2CsectionAnchor%7Cmediawiki.skinning.interface%7Cskins.vector.styles%7Cwikibase.client.init&only=styles&skin=vector
Visit the according URL with the webbrowser and see what it shows. It should show (compressed) CSS. 87.123.51.230 (talk) 21:06, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, I dont See anything that calls it. Please Can we Get a Dev to Fix this. 75.135.152.47 (talk) 17:03, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
These calls must be there.
Does the wiki have a public URL? If so, what is it? 87.123.20.110 (talk) 18:18, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
Ok, I haven't Configured it, so just click setup wiki. wiki.quantumrads.com 75.135.152.47 (talk) 18:41, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

On Unix, you need read and write.
For Windows, I don't know. It would be great, if you could just test that and tell us what the result is! 87.123.20.110 (talk) 20:02, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
Ok, I haven't tested any other configs, But IUSR has Modify, Read and Execute, Read, Write. 75.135.152.47 (talk) 22:15, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
Basically, "modify" is the sum of "read" and "write". However, the permission "modfy" also includes "delete" rights, which neither "rea" nor "write" includes. 87.123.43.227 (talk) 09:13, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

Internationalization: how do I change the language of an SVG file

I am working on File:Saccheri quads.svg.

I would like the words "right", "obtuse", "acute" to appear in any language.

I know this is possible (possibly within limits) by editing the .svg file with a text editor (and saving with a mention of the language in the file name).

However is there a way to pass the three literals as parameters, provided they are not hard-coded in the .svg file? When requesting File:Saccheri quads.svg the Italian Wikipedia would pass "retto, "ottuso", "acuto", the French Wikipedia would pass "droit", "obtus", "aigu" and so on. Thank you. JmCor (talk) 04:54, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

Apparently, SVG provides a way to provide texts in multiple languages. There's a lang= parameter you can use on the image so it renders texts embedded inside a switch element in that language.
Example:
[[File:Multilingual SVG example.svg|thumb|180px|Multilingual SVG example|lang=en]]
[[File:Multilingual SVG example.svg|thumb|180px|Multilingual SVG example|lang=de]]
(note: this example works at least on wikipedia, but doesn't work on flow pages, not sure why) Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:31, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

Search box suggetions not working properly

Recently I've been having some problems with the search box suggestions. When I type the beginning of a phrase, I receive suggestions that do not start with the letters that I have typed. For example, today I was idlely looking for unexplained events because everybody loves a good unexplained event. Anyway, I start by typing "Unexplained q" (because I like to go through in quertybetical order (q, qw, qe, qr, w, wq, ww, we, and so on) to repeatedly narrow the suggestions, allowing me to see more of them in the long run), but the suggestions said "Unexplained Fevers, Unexplained Mysteries, Unexplained infertility, etc." You'll notice that none of these start with the letters I had actually typed. I tried moving on to "Unexplained w", but the suggestions didn't change in any way.

Essentially, the search suggestions seem to rely only on the first word typed (and if you've only typed one word they rely only on the first handful of syllables) and will always be limited to the same seven articles containing that word (some of which don't even actually start with it) and never showing anything else, regardless of what else you type, thereby severely hogtying their utility. I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds this terribly inconvenient.

Just to be clear, this only effects the search bar suggestions. The search itself still functions normally.

If this is a bug, is there any way that I can fix it? Or failing that, does the Dev team have any plans to fix it? Or if they don't, which suggests they don't know about it yet, is there any way I can tell them about it?

If this is some sort of misguided attempt at a "feature" (which I doubt, considering that it only manages to make search suggestions less helpful), is there any way to disable it, perhaps in the user preferences or something? BrokenEye3 (talk) 07:08, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

Add download button

Hi, I am a student in IT in France.

To validate my years, I need to install mediawiki and add a download button to the article page.

I have many questions, but first I need an advice, to add this button, should I create a new extension or modify directly the mediawiki'scode?

Thanks you for your time.

I have installed MediaWiki version 1.26.2 on my webspace from my webhoster (Strato).

In the beginning everything looks fine. But now i am in trouble when i upload pictures.

Sometimes i got an warning when i try to upload like this:

Die Datei /mnt/shared/tmp/phpoya4du konnte nicht unter mwstore://local-backend/local-public/c/ce/Final.2988.Standbild006.jpg gespeichert werden.

And in other cases the upload works but i get:

Fehler beim Erstellen des Vorschaubildes: /mnt/web9/d2/62/5419162/htdocs/wiki/includes/limit.sh: line 90: ulimit: file size: cannot modify limit: Not owner

convert: Empty input file `/mnt/web9/d2/62/5419162/htdocs/wiki/images/c/ce/Final.2988.Standbild006.jpg' @ error/jpeg.c/JPEGErrorHandler/318.

convert: no images defined `/var/tmp//transform_d48c96593924-1.jpg' @ error/convert.c/ConvertImageCommand/3044.

Error code: 1

instead of the thumbnail. Can anybody help? Mathias.denzin (talk) 12:07, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

From reading the error messages, I think that the file ownership is wrong.
The first thing to adjust would be to set proper file permissions for the images/ folder. The webserver user must have read and write access to it. Set these permissions recursively, also for the contained files and subfolders! 87.123.51.230 (talk) 12:54, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

Change IP Talk to "Not logged in"

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

I noticed that on MediaWiki.org and on Wikipedia, the top-right link shows a mini-avatar with the words "not logged in" when I view a page without logging in.

My wiki shows my IP address and a User_Talk page next to the avatar.

Does anybody know how I can mimic the behavior on MediaWiki.org and Wikipedia? I think having "not logged in" is much cleaner looking than an IP talk.

I've looked in all the Special:AllMessages for a system message(s) that may change this behavior, but I can't find it. Is it an extension doing this?

Only changing a language label/system message is not enough. In fact, this difference is part of a change in the Vector skin, which also includes a few CSS changes.
It has been added in late 2015 and it will be part of the next MediaWiki release, 1.27. So you could try, if you can patch your Vector skin manually (which I would not do - hacking the Core is evil!). Or if you just wait, an update to MediaWiki 1.27 will bring you the new design as well. 87.123.51.230 (talk) 13:18, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
So, the Vector skin that I downloaded with MW1.26 isn't the same as the Vector that's being used on Wikipedia? (Am I understanding correctly?)
I've looked at the Vector code (on my server) and didn't see anything that would change this link. • Supāsaru 14:18, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
It actually was the same. Wikipedia is using alpha versions, which nearly always are newer than the released version. This is the kind of testing, which is done before the code is actually released for the general public. There will be nothing to see in your version of Vector. The change will come with the source code of the 1.27 version. 87.123.51.230 (talk) 15:02, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

Setting up combined wiki(s) with different (group) rights

Dear all,

Currently we have 1 wiki, with 1 group of users. I would like expand it to 3 different wiki's for my company, that can interlink each other. But that for each of the wiki's I can give different group rights.

group 1: read/write wiki A, read wiki B, read Wiki C

group 2: read Wiki A, no access to Wiki B and Wiki C

group 3: read Wiki A, read/write Wiki B, read Wiki C

group 4: read Wiki A, read Wiki B, read/write Wiki C

...With the possibility to lateron add more Wiki's or usergroups.

How do I best set that up uding MediaWiki?

thanks,

Niels 81.175.72.226 (talk) 13:36, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

Take a look at Manual:Shared database. I suggest sharing the user and user_properties tables, which will allow users to have the same account on all wikis. Yo can also share the user_groups table so the same group applies to all wikis (adding a user to a group will add it on every wiki), and then specify permissions for each group on each wiki. How to get rid of spam articles without getting rid of elgitimate ones?

My wiki was attacked by spam bots and there are now thousands of crap articles on the site.

Its a very small wiki, and all the legitimate pages are literally all accessable right from the front page, and all made and edited by about 10 users as most

Is there anyway to manually 'whitelist' the non-spam articles while automatically deleting the spam ones which are not whitelisted? 68.227.233.245 (talk) 20:57, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi All,

A few updates ago the dialpad started to squish together where the keys overlap vertically. I cannot find a place to configure this within DW dialer though i assume its there?

I do have my font set to Extra larger on my Note 3 running Kit Kat. But even when i make the font smaller it still happens. And when i rotate my screen it gets better but there is still overlap?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Welcome on the Support Desk for MediaWiki!
MediaWiki is the software used to run wikis like Wikipedia. It however does not have to do with the DW dialer app or the dialpad. You should ask in a forum specifically made for this app, instead! 87.123.20.110 (talk) 23:18, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

Most pages are forbidden.

Preferences, Talk, Discussion and a whole host of other pages are broken on a clean install of MediaWiki, it just says forbidden. I used oneclick installer on my hos (fasthosts.co.uk). The support says it's an issue with the MediaWiki software. Chaoss86 (talk) 22:03, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

It's an issue with the host, who provided you with a broken setup. That at least is my guess. MediaWiki does not make these pages forbidden - on other hosts at least.
Let's see, if we can debug this a bit:
When you say it displays "forbidden", do you then mean the 403 HTTP error code, which is created by the webserver? 87.123.20.110 (talk) 23:22, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

How can I make '-{}-' works?

Title or content in my site, the '-{}-' did not works.

By search mediawiki, I installed MLEB, and I could find Babel, cldr, LocalisationUpdate,Translate,UniversalLanguageSelector in my special:version.(though after known more about these extension, I do not think they can do works on '-{}-')

The another help I found in mediawiki is 'Writing systems', but in the help there is nothing about install or download, does it mean the '-{}-' will be auto parse by mediawiki?

I have check the special:version in mediawiki or pediawiki, in 'Parser extension tags' and 'Parser function hooks', there are nothing about '-{}-'.

Please guide me , how can I make '-{}-' work in my site? Redlz250 (talk) 09:49, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

What's -{}- and how it should work? Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 10:25, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
it is a language translat function, you can find iss usage in Writing systems/Syntax. Redlz250 (talk) 02:26, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
there is a help like this:
=== LanguageConverter ===
For documentation on how to use LanguageConverter, see Writing systems/Syntax
LanguageConverter is a system based on language variants that automatically converts the content of a page into a different variant. A variant is mostly the same language in a different script. To use the LanguageConverter, go to your Internationalisation preferences. If you are on a wiki that supports conversion, you'll see an extra option for choosing the script.
but how to go to my internationalisation perferences? Redlz250 (talk) 02:39, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
Your internationalisation perferences are in Special:Preferences. In w:zh:Special:Preferences for example I see a Content language variant: to choose. Maybe that's what it means. It only works for a selected list of languages. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:09, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
I wrote a page as below:
-{zh-hans:computer; zh-hant:ELECTRONICBRAIN;}-
and change language in my preferences->Internationalisation->Language, but the code did not be parse.
it is no use..
and i test it in my page in mediawiki, and change the language, but it still no use. Redlz250 (talk) 06:38, 8 June 2016 (UTC)

ConfirmAccount Script crashing my site

Hello,

I am currently using version 1.26 of Mediawiki and the latest version of Confirm Account. Following the instructions and adding the line of code at the end of my LocalSettings.php crashes the page. When I try to run the update.php script in the maintenance folder I get this error:

PHP Catchable fatal error:  Argument 2 passed to ConfirmAccountSetup::defineSourcePaths() must be of the type array, null given, called in /var/lib/mediawiki/extensions/ConfirmAccount/ConfirmAccount.php on line 39 and defined in /var/lib/mediawiki/extensions/ConfirmAccount/ConfirmAccount.setup.php on line 15

I have been trying to find a fix to this but, nothing has helped me out. I have tried creating the accountcred and accountreq directories in the images folder but this issue still persists for me. I can provide any additional information if needed.

This is the link to my mediawiki: http://130.245.155.99/mediawiki/ running on Ubuntu 15.10 130.245.213.19 (talk) 17:35, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

I think that looks like a bug. According to [[[phab:maniphest/query/HIEfVSDyAa6M/#R|https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/maniphest/query/HIEfVSDyAa6M/#R]] this list], it has not yet been reported, so you should open an issue for it! 87.123.4.245 (talk) 00:16, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
I don't know how to best fix this one, but maybe you can add the following thought to your bug report:
Is there any reason why $wgMessagesDirs is not set in the global scope of ConfirmAccount.php and that's it? 87.123.4.245 (talk) 00:18, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for your response! After sending a bug report, should I try removing ConfirmAccount and reinstalling it or reinstall mediawiki? Are there any alternatives to confirm account? 130.245.192.124 (talk) 16:44, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
Reinstalling MediaWiki will not help.
If you disable the ConfirmAccount extension, then the error will no longer happen as well - but you then loose that functionality.
In order to "fix" this issue, I would try to add a line with
global $wgMessagesDirs;
in ConfirmAccount/ConfirmAccount.php before line 39. 87.123.34.118 (talk) 17:13, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
I just tried adding that line and I'm still getting the error message when running the update.php file. Could it be an issue with the directories? I need ConfirmAccount so removing it is not an option. If I can't get Confirm account to work, are there any alternatives? 130.245.213.19 (talk) 20:37, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

You have to provide legal information on the copyright of that image.
The user who flagged your image as copyright violation thinks that this image has before been posted on Facebook and because of that, your upload on Commons would be a violation.
I don't know, if this is true.
Especially, I do not know, why you should loose any rights on your image, just because you have also uploaded it at another place (here: on Facebook). The image _was_ first uploaded on FB and copyright information on Facebook had not been provided. What I am saying is: Being the first to -possibly illegally- upload a file does not make it my property.
However, @ Grupo Encantos, if you provide according copyright information, I think you can just upload that file again and that's that. 87.123.2.4 (talk) 21:45, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

Hello,

My media wiki site was located at /home/www/wiki. I downloaded mediawiki 1.26.2, created a new directory at /home/www/wikiNew and unpacked 1.26.2 into there. Then i ran rsync on the images folder from /wiki/images/ to wikiNew/images, the extensions folder /wiki/extensions/ to wikiNew/extensions, the skins folder /wiki/skins/ to wikiNew/skins and finally copied over my existing LocalSettings.php file. I followed the instructions at Manual:Upgrading and i believe I made the appropriate changes to LocalSettings. Then I ran update.php and now my site won't do anything.

http://heritage.apegm.mb.ca/images still works and I can still access phpmyadmin.

What did I do wrong?

Thanks,

Trent Whytekong (talk) 16:48, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

I re did my install, brouigh my LocalSettings over, rsync'd the images again then added each of the extensions by hand and am trying to use a default skin but still won't work. Does anyone have any ideas? Whytekong (talk) 22:46, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
Note that you have to use the extensions and the skins, which come with the new version of MediaWiki. These extensions and skins should not be copied from the old wiki! For the other extensions and skins, you should update them to the according version, which you most likely can download from mediawiki.org! 87.123.34.118 (talk) 07:57, 11 April 2016 (UTC)
I did that and through some debugging realized that an extension, EmbedVideo, has errors that won't allow the site to load. I downloaded the extension for 1.26.2 from mediawiki.org. Not sure why that happened but thanks for the help Whytekong (talk) 17:17, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

[RESOLVED] Visualizing a file generated with dumpLinks.php

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

It's probably a very lame question as I can't even google a one, but could you please suggest any visualization tool to visualize a plain links file generated with dumpLinks.php? Linux or Windows, CLI or GUI -- does not really matter (however, Linux and probably CLI are much preferrable). Thank you in advance! 195.234.74.168 (talk) 08:53, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

Documentation of Manual:dumpLinks.php says it's a plain text editor, so you can use any plain text editor or just output its contents directly to the console output. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:29, 11 April 2016 (UTC)
I'm afraid I was not too specific while asking the question. I just would like to know is there probably a tool that could visualize it as a graph, not just plain text. 195.234.74.168 (talk) 09:42, 11 April 2016 (UTC)
I seem to have solved the problem. Not sure how fine it is, but I figured out it may be worked around using DOT+GraphViz and ImageMagick. Say, something like:
php dumpLinks.php | ../../plain-to-dot.sh | dot -Tps | convert ps:- png:- > wiki.png
where plain-to-dot.sh is as follows:
#!/bin/bash
echo 'digraph wiki {'
while read ROW; do
HEAD=$(echo "$ROW" | cut -d ' ' -f 1)
TAIL=$(echo "$ROW" | cut -d ' ' -f 2-)
#`cut` seems to return TAIL as HEAD if only one field is supplied
if [ "$HEAD" != "$TAIL" ]; then
for FIELD in $(echo -n "$TAIL" | tr " " "\n"); do
echo -e "\t\"$HEAD\" -> \"$FIELD\";";
done
fi
done < "${1:-/dev/stdin}"
echo '}'

Passing Property Values

Currently i have 3 categories, Application, Application Instance and Vendor. Right now Application has a link(via property Made By) to Vendor. Application instances need to link back to Vendor via a property. I have an ask query that is able to reference the application via a variable called program. This ask statement can return a table with the application and the vendor. I am not sure how to set the vendor to a property on this page. An ask inside of a set query does not work. Uploading enwiki files on commons by URL

phab:T77572 was recently closed, where can I find the manual page how to upload an existing enwiki (or dewiki or meta etc.) file on commons by URL, i.e., without actually downloading and uploading it again? –Be..anyone 💩 01:46, 12 April 2016 (UTC)

Apparently, anyone with the upload_by_url right (see commons:Special:ListGroupRights) should be able to do that. I'm not sure if that's possible directly from Special:Upload, since that option may not be exposed (and I'm not in one of those groups), but at least the API provides that option. Hi,

I have upgrade WIKI 1.25.3 with Collection extension version 1.7.0

I can able to download as PDF for any WIKI article pages with below configuration while click on 'Download as PDF'.

But, I couldn't able to find any configuration options inside Extension:Collection that would support for download the embedded images(JPG, GIF etc) in the article page.

Below are my configurations for Collection :

require_once("$IP/extensions/Collection/Collection.php");

$wgCollectionMWServeURL = "http://hostname:8899";

$wgCollectionMWServeCredentials = 'sdpuse:password:domainname';

$wgCollectionFormats = array(

'rl' => 'PDF',

'odf' => 'ODT',

'docbook' => 'DocBook'

);

Please help with the configuration options that is still required .

Are you using something "special" in regards to images? Like Commons or so?
If not, then your images are all inside the images/ folder and in its subfolders. So basically, all you have to do is to recursively copy the images/ folder from the old location to the new one. After that, the images should all be there.
If that does not help: What is it that is missing? The originals? Or the thumbnails? What do you see instead of such a missing image?
Not related to your question, but at the point where you have copied the contents of the extensions/ folder, you have overwritten the extensions, which come with MediaWiki 1.26 with those, which come with 1.25. This should not be done. Also, if you have extensions, which did not come with MediaWiki, but which you got from somewhere else (e.g. form mediawiki.org), you should update them as well.
What is missing in your commands is this: You still have to run update.php in order to update the database. 87.123.28.129 (talk) 16:06, 12 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for your time.
I do not use Commons images. We only use images that we manually upload.
When I go to Special Page and then File list. Couple of images are OK, but many are missing. I see their upload date, name, ... but on thumbnail, I see Error creating thumbnail: File missing...
If I go to read an article, I see is this in the Edit page :
[[Fichier:myFile.jpg]]

And this on the Read page where the image is supose to be :

myFile.jpg
Which is a clickable link that goes to a Not Found The requested URL was not found on this server.
(With Firefox 45)
It's strange that it's only the images uploads of one user that are missing (It's a private wiki and only two users have upload images). I only see mine, even if we connect to the wiki with is account.
For the extentions, I only use WikiEditor and MultimediaViewer
WikiEditor seams by default in 1.26. I did it again but without extention this time. Still,only some of the image still there !?!? Here's what I did this time :

I don't know in how far MultimediaViewer might influence the problem.
However, there is something easy to test:
Visit a File:... page of an image, which is missing. This page has a link to the original image, to the image in original size. This link is something like images/e/e4/image.jpg. It does not have the word thumbs/ in the URL. If you manually call that URL by putting it into the adress bar of your browser, is the image then found? If you navigate to exactly that folder inside the filesystem, e.g. via SSH or with your FTP client, is the image then present at that place? 87.123.28.129 (talk) 09:02, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

Multiple domains in $wgCookieDomain

Hi, I'm looking to share a single account login across multiple domains. Is this possible through $wgCookieDomain? If yes, how would it be formatted? Example wikis I am running are http://www.bfgawiki.com and http://www.dowwiki.com. Thanks! ~ Iamacyborg (talk) 15:33, 12 April 2016 (UTC)

You need Extension:CentralAuth for something like that. It's what Wikipedia uses to share accounts with it's sister sites like wikisource, Commons, wikimedia.org etc etc. —TheDJ (Not WMF) (talkcontribs) 15:40, 12 April 2016 (UTC)

What you see there is unparsed PHP code. Obviously, the content of .php files now no longer is parsed so that MediaWiki is no longer working. Note that this is not only a functional problem, but this actually is an urgent security problem! You should either work around it by deactivating your domain for now or solve it by making .php files be parsed again. 87.123.28.129 (talk) 17:10, 12 April 2016 (UTC)

MediaWiki Incorrectly Thinks Folders Are Read-Only

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

System Information:

  • MediaWiki: 1.25.5
  • PHP: 5.4.24
  • Database: MySQL 5.1.73-community
  • Windows Server 2012R2

URL: http://stoutwiki/wiki/Special:Upload (can't be accessed outside my company's internal LAN)

When I try to upload a new version of a file, I get an error like "Could not create directory "mwstore://local-backend/local-public/4/41".

The debug log says:

[FSFileBackend] FSFileBackend::doPrepareInternal: directory C:\wiki\wiki/images/4/41 is read-only

This is not true; IUSR has full permissions on the folder.

In past versions of MediaWiki, I could use the fix from http://php.net/manual/en/function.is-writable.php#73596 by pasting it into FSFileBackend.php and changing calls to is_writable to $this->iswritable. Unfortunately, that no longer works. Now, if I do that, I get the following error:

Could not read or write file "mwstore://local-backend/local-public/4/41/Data_Flow.vsd" due to insufficient permissions or missing directories/containers.

  • Could not store file "C:\Windows\Temp\phpCF82.tmp" at "mwstore://local-backend/local-public/4/41/Data_Flow.vsd".

This happens even though IUSR has full privileges on C:\Windows\Temp

How can I get around this problem in the latest release of 1.25? ZianFirstWatch (talk) 21:38, 12 April 2016 (UTC)

Please note that MediaWiki does not complain about mising in the Temp/ folder, but about missing permissions inside the images/ folder!
Please make sure that the webserver user has permission to use the images/ folder as well! 87.123.28.129 (talk) 09:11, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
Sorry, I somehow misread your post. You said that the webserver user does have permissions inside the images/ folder. Are you really sure that this really is the case? Also for subfolders? Or is the username different in your case? 87.123.28.129 (talk) 09:16, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
Solved.
I logged the entire upload process with Process Monitor and discovered that PHP was running as the IIS App Pool (so far so good; I had granted the app pool the right security settings) and impersonating a Windows domain login (I hadn't given "Everyone" or any domain users any security rights on the images folder).
Fix:
Grant "Everyone" permission on the images folder
Cause:
Using Windows Domain authentication for MediaWiki via the Auth_remoteuser add-in. ZianFirstWatch (talk) 16:15, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

Fresh install of mediawiki throws http error 500 after logging in

Hi.

Fresh install of mediawiki. Using IIS 8, mysql 5.7, php 7 and the bluespice version of mediawiki (which is version 1.23) on a windows server 2012 r2.

I install, it looks good. I try to log in (go to login page, fill out info and hit login) with the account created during wiki creation and it starts throwing http error 500. It keeps doing this on the machine I try to log in from. If I try to access the wiki from another computer it works but only until I try to log in again.

Here's the logged error, any ideas?

Hi Erik. I've replied to your earlier post regarding this issue. The short answer is that your version of MediaWiki (1.23) is not compatible with the new exception handling semantics of PHP 7.x, and it will be (or would have been) necessary to upgrade MediaWiki to a version that was compatible with PHP 7.
I hope you resolved your problem, as, sadly, I'm four years too late to provide a solution. Perhaps this can still help another user who arrives here after doing a search for Uncaught TypeError: Argument 1 passed to MWExceptionHandler::rollbackMasterChangesAndLog() must be an instance of Exception, as I did. Technically, the text can be moved into the article namespace with the page name "Hubert Leon Raper". That is how it can be what you called "posted in Wikipedia".
However, there is one thing to take care of: Wikipedia has Notability criteria, which every person, who wants to have an own article in Wikipedia, has to meet. Basically, if according to these criteria you are not notable, the according article can be deleted.
I am not an expert concerning the notability requirements of the English Wikipedia. I don't know, if what I see in the article is considered to make you notable or not. 87.123.50.238 (talk) 17:25, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
I think being the author/designer of a website most likely is not enough to make you notable; not even pages like microsoft.com have an own article (but only a redirect).
If the books, which you have written, are available in paperform and not published by yourself, then these might make you notable as an author. The same might also be the case for articles in notable publications.
As a second aspect, membership in the World Swing Dance Hall of Fame might also make you notable. 87.123.50.238 (talk) 17:42, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

MediaWiki now uses a CSS3 feature to display the list in columns, maybe your browser doesn't support this feature. Recent versions of Google Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer should work. Done in T55130 Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:54, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

A couple of extensions; broken functionality

I'm running MW 1.23; all I did was add the LockOnCreate and Collections extension (and the corresponding LocalSettings lines)... absolutely nothing else. Now I cannot access my wiki at all, I get an error 500. My wiki is hosted elsewhere so I install extensions via FTP, Filezilla reported several errrors and failed to copy some files. This is normal so I do several passes of 'overwrite if new size' until the errors clear. There were no more errors.

The kicker? I comment out ALL non-default extensions and physically delete the Collections and LockOnCreate extensions... the error persists.

Please do help me!

Be sure you haven't introduced byte order mark characters when editing Manual:LocalSettings.php with a buggy editor, or left something there causing a syntax error. Looking at the error log of the server would give you more information about the error. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:45, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
That's one of the problems as well, I've read a lot about this mysterious error log. I've no idea how to access it. I added the error visibility lines to my LocalSettings. I don't have a /var/ folder anywhere that I normally see people having an error log in. I did find two files, one called [sitename].log and another [sitename].error.log.1 but they dont contain anything useful or even recent. I should also specify I don't have a php.ini anywhere. Edit: I did eventually find a /var/ but there's nothing in the /var/log.
FWIW: I use Notepad++ to modify my files.
Update: I upgraded to 1.26 using FTP and I am still getting the error 500. Dog1994 (talk) 14:51, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
If you are not administrating the server yourself, ask your host to give you an exerpt of the error.log file!
Also, the place, where this log is stored, depends on whether you are using Apache or IIS as a webserver. And it might depend on the distribution of the underlying operating system - they use different paths. 87.123.58.223 (talk) 17:27, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
You can try renaming your LocalSettings.php to other name and see if the error still happens, to isolate the problem. If you don't get the error, but a "you must configure your wiki", then problem is in LocalSettings.php.
You can try removing parts of the file until you find the problem. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 21:11, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
yep that did the trick! i used an 'original' LocalSettings and replaced it, then was able to upgrade from the site, thank you!
The only issue now is that while I amended the file to support skins, my CSS isn't loading properly. See http://i.imgur.com/8ME5WHg.jpg for an example. Dog1994 (talk) 22:21, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

I have successfully reconfigured and updated my wiki, it's now completely functional thanks in no small part to this help! Thank you VERY much! I've lost many man hours of work due to this insipid issue.
For reference if this happens to anyone:
I added RewriteRule ^(api|load)\.php - [L] to htaccess, then I made load.php, unwrittable by group and public. Then I changed the rewrite rules from site.com/w/index.php to just site.com. Dog1994 (talk) 17:35, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

Subdomain

I have created a new wiki site exclusively for my family. So, I changed the LocalSettings.php. But, when I put in the URL the regular path of the wiki installation >barnert.org/html/wiki< everything works. But when when i put in the URl the coresspondent subdomain I have created >wissen.barnert.org< the site is not completely displayed and an error in shown in German (Von „http://barnert.org/html/wiki/index.php?title=Spezial:Ungültiger_Seitenname“). Any help appreciated. 2001:A61:21A:C401:D58F:DD95:7387:7F20 (talk) 11:26, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

If you use two different wikis, then you should also use two sets of different files. So there are two independant installations, which both have their own LocalSettings.php file.
In the LocalSettings.php of wissen.barnert.org, you somewhere define barnert.org as server URL. This is wrong. Instead, this should point to wissen.barnert.org.
A second things that might be wrong is that, again somewhere in the same file, you are pointing to a path with "html/wiki/" in it. However, obviously the wiki in the wissen subdomain is not stored inside that folder, so this path has to be corrected as well. 87.123.50.238 (talk) 12:21, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
And a third thing I notice is that when I call a page in the wissen subdomain, then I directly get redirected to the same domain without wissen in it. I guess this redirect/RewriteRule whatever it is needs fixing as well. 87.123.41.255 (talk) 12:24, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

MW-OCG-SERVICE+PARSOID+VisualEditor Image rendering

Dear all,

I've installed the mediawiki collection extension with the OCG + Visual Editor and Parsoid, and I can render pages with plain text, but when I try to render pages with images, the renderer throws this error:

Bad article title: ./File:Magic_wiki.jpg‎//wiki.domain/index.php/File:Magic_wiki.jpg‎

I was googling and I found that maybe there's a bugg in Parsoid, is there any simple solution to solve that problem?

Thank you, 2001:67C:1148:110:B487:7B1E:8139:AE18 (talk) 15:49, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

This seems like a misconfiguration, either of Parsoid, OCG, or your wiki. It might be better to continue this discussion either on IRC (in the #mediawiki-parsoid channel) or on the discussion page for OCG: Talk:Offline content generator cscott (talk) 15:20, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

Original report:

I am having some issues on my wiki. I can create empty filters and enable/disable them but I can't do anything else. If I try it says,

Not Implemented

GET to /index.php/Special:AbuseFilter/2 not supported. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

This only happens when I try to edit the conditions. Any thoughts? 67.244.58.187 00:47, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

The URL /index.php/Special:AbuseFilter looks like you are using short URLs. Maybe the problem is somehow related to the short URL configuration? 87.123.58.223 (talk) 17:35, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
I dont think thats it though. 67.244.58.187 (talk) 01:12, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
And what do you think it is? 87.123.58.223 (talk) 07:50, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
How should I know? 108.114.10.142 (talk) 13:02, 24 April 2016 (UTC)
Disable short URLs (basically, remove all rewrite rules and restore/adapt $wgArticlePath) and try again Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 17:34, 24 April 2016 (UTC)
I was also thinking that it might have something to do with mod_security. MacFan4000 (talk) 18:03, 24 April 2016 (UTC)
Also, had the same problem. Found disabling only the HTTPS .htaccess rewrite rules was enough.
Rewrite rules:
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off
RewriteRule (.*) https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI}
The browser gives the following warning for secured connection:
Mixed Content: The page at 'https://<Domain>/wiki/Special:AbuseFilter/1'</nowiki> was loaded over a secure connection, but contains a form which targets an insecure endpoint '<nowiki>http://<Domain>/wiki/Special:AbuseFilter/1'</nowiki>. This endpoint should be made available over a secure connection.
Any idea how this can be permanently fixed, or whatever the root problem might be? AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 05:28, 22 July 2016 (UTC)
@AhmadF.Cheema: AbuseFilter is being used here at WMF wikis, and in HTTPS, and I don't see that problem.
If you're using https, be sure you don't have $wgServer set with "http://" as protocol, because it will force URLs to http instead of https. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 01:48, 23 July 2016 (UTC)
Yes, that was apparently the exact problem.
The "form which targets an insecure endpoint" now uses https://<Domain>/wiki/Special:AbuseFilter/1 instead of "http://".
Thanks! AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 02:37, 23 July 2016 (UTC)

How to solve it? Yokii2N (talk) 08:08, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

Make sure you follow what is on our upgrade page!
Basically, after you made a backup of your 1.18 system, you continue using the same database. This database then is updated by the update.php script or by the web updater. With normal setups, where you are just having one wiki (and not multiple wikis with one shared user table), doing these steps, the table "user" does not need to be created. The table user already is there! 87.123.58.223 (talk) 09:08, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
I really follow upgrade page. The wiki is about 1.18 and I have I never used it. Now I want to install it,but I only have 1.25 in my computer. So I want to upgrade and install it first. When I follow the upgrade page to upgrade it I have this question. Yokii2N (talk) 10:05, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
So if I get you right, you have the old wiki and you want to set it up again and update it.
What do you need the wiki with version 1.18 for?
Is there anything in the wiki? Or is it completely empty? Because, if it's empty, you would not even have to set up the old 1.18 system at all. You could then start over new with a new, empty installation of 1.25... 87.123.58.223 (talk) 10:46, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
Yes I have a old wiki with version1.18 but not empty. It set up two years ago Now I need a wiki like it, so I want set it up again. What should I do? Yokii2N (talk) 12:59, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
Ok. IN that case, I propose the following:
First set up/install the old 1.18 wiki again. Your MySQL error message makes it look like you do have the right database credentials in your LocalSettings.php file. However, in your database, the table "user" obviously is missing.
Please check the "original" database (the dumpfile, from which you restored the database or where ever you are taking the 1.18 database from) and see, if this database has a "user" table. In order for MediaWiki to work correctly, you will need a complete database - with the user table. 87.123.58.223 (talk) 13:45, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
Maybe the table is there but it's under a different name (for example, if you have a table prefix, or if the old wiki was using a shared database (so the user table is usually present only on the main wiki database and not others) Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 16:27, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

No style displaying with XAMPP 5.6.19 and MW 1.26.2

Hi,

I got the issue when trying to configure or to use MW 1.26.2 with XAMPP 5.6.19 package: The configuration process is completely displayed without any styling. Also when I run the configuration process I have the same problem with the wiki itself. No styles, just html!

But when I use MW 1.25.5, this problem doesn't show up.

Do you have a explanation for that?

Thank you! 91.9.6.202 (talk) 12:02, 16 April 2016 (UTC)

See Manual:Errors and symptoms#The wiki appears without styles applied and images are missing! 87.123.16.81 (talk) 12:04, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
In the end it was a problem with $wgTmpDirectory, what needed to be set.

When I install mediawiki php memory limit

When I install mediawiki:

Don't forget security updates! Keep an eye on the low-traffic release announcements mailing list.

Checking environment...

Please include all of the lines below when reporting installation problems.

  • PHP 5.2.5 installed
  • Found database drivers for: MySQL
  • PHP server API is apache2handler; ok, using pretty URLs (index.php/Page_Title)
  • Have XML / Latin1-UTF-8 conversion support.
  • PHP's memory_limit is 16M. If this is too low, installation may fail!
  • Have zlib support; enabling output compression.
  • Couldn't find Turck MMCache, eAccelerator or APC. Object caching functions cannot be used.
  • GNU diff3 not found.
  • Couldn't find GD library or ImageMagick; image thumbnailing disabled.
  • Installation directory: E:\wamp\www\wiki
  • Script URI path: /wiki
  • Environment checked. You can install MediaWiki.

How to solve it? Yokii2N (talk) 12:43, 16 April 2016 (UTC)

You solve this problem by increasing the memory limit in the PHP configuration.
Please note that PHP 5.2 is a very old version. With this version, you will not be able to use current and secure versions of MediaWiki. With PHP 5.2, you can only run MediaWiki 1.18 and older. These versions of MediaWiki contain known security holes, which will not get fixed. Running these old versions is '''not''' recommended. You should use PHP 5.3 at least or better PHP versions ''newer than'' 5.3. With these newer PHP versions, you will be able to use MediaWiki 1.23 or 1.26, which are new, currently supported and secure. 87.123.38.100 (talk) 21:45, 16 April 2016 (UTC)

What version of MediaWiki is this about?
A PHP error may cause this, and depending on how PHP is configured, you may not see any error message, just a cut-off HTML page. Turn on error_reporting and display_errors in php.ini (restart the webserver to reload the configuration change) and see if it gives an error message to start looking at. Scribunto Infoboxes

Hey, I am trying to add an Infobox to the top of my MW site. I keep getting this error: Lua error: Cannot create process: proc_open(/dev/null): failed to open stream: Operation not permitted

Any ideas? Timmccool (talk) 20:12, 16 April 2016 (UTC)

Apparently, your server has no access to /dev/null. Maybe you have SELinux enabled that's blocking access to such device? or a open_basedir restriction.
From here it may be that it's trying to write a log there. Maybe you can specify a writable directory for logs if you can't figure out how to grant access to /dev/null Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 10:41, 17 April 2016 (UTC)

I'm not sure where to ask this. I recently added an NGO, the Rise Up Society, to a list of NGO's in Kenya that you have here on Wikipedia.. I volunteer for this organization, have it's registration number, have seen it's registration contract, etc. We have haters who are trying to hurt our organization. Anyway, someone has removed my recent listing and I want to know how I can make my listing permanent, so that someone can't keep coming in and removing my legitimate, honest and correct work out of spite, rather than a spirit of wanting honesty and accuracy. Please tell me how to resolve this very important problem. The url of the page in question is. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_non-governmental_organisations_in_Kenya Manylittle (talk) 09:12, 17 April 2016 (UTC)

I have just undone the removal. FYI, there is no way to generally keep others from editing wiki pages - giving people the possibility to edit is what Wikipedia is all about. 87.123.38.100 (talk) 10:00, 17 April 2016 (UTC)
Thank you so much for your help. What should I do if they do it again? I'm seeing that there are other pages in this section about Kenya, and some of them are about specific organizations. Perhaps adding my own page about Rise Up Society would help, but then I am opening the possibility for the hater to come in and change my words, and instead of Rise Up looking like the wonderful organization that it is, they can make it look like a horrible scam organization, and If I don't check it several times a day, they can really hurt things. I'm one of three Administrative Assistants for the Society, that do not live in Kenya. Manylittle (talk) 10:59, 17 April 2016 (UTC)
"Haters" or more general: people can change Wikipedia articles anyway. I have reset the removal of your entry, because the user, who removed it, did not provide understandable reasons for this removal. I do not know your organisation and I don't know what it does.
Basically, Wikipedia articles don't belong to anyone. If a topic is notable as explained on en:WP:Notability, then an own article about this topic can be added to Wikipedia. If the topic is _not_ notable, then chances are that an according article would be deleted again one day. Anyway, basically everyone is allowed to edit and to create articles. Information in articles have to be precise, have to be well-balanced and must have reliable sources.
For example if you want to write an article about Volkswagen, then it would not be ok to write one line about the company and then 20 lines about the recent exhaust scandals and that is the whole article. Something like that would not be well-balanced. Also, should there be something to criticise, _especially_ for such criticism, there must be reliable sources. For example, if I considered Donald Trump to be a criminal, then I would only be allowed to add that, if there were reliable sources backing this up. Basically, my personal opinion is not relevant for Wikipedia - and so is the opinion of other editors.
Finally, if an article gets heavily vandalised, e.g. by recurring edits, which go against the aforementioned rules, then the article can be protected in several different levels in order to prevent such vandalism in the future. 87.123.38.100 (talk) 12:23, 17 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi, Erik. I'm afraid I'm four years too late, but I've recently encountered this exact error message recently, and it manifested itself on pages in our Template namespace.
The situation is as described in this GitHub issue, unrelated to MediaWiki, but the underlying issue is the same.
The problem is that exception handling in PHP 7.x has changed from PHP 5.x, and your version of MediaWiki (1.23 as I infer from your other Support desk post) does not understand the new PHP 7.x semantics, which results in the fatal error in your logs. Two possible solutions: downgrade PHP to 5.x, or upgrade MediaWiki to something in the 1.3x series, which requires PHP 7.x.
Hopefully this helps someone else in this situation, who arrives here by searching for the Uncaught TypeError error message, as I did. Ernstkm (talk) 18:31, 22 March 2020 (UTC)

Templates for Note / Warning / ... boxes

Hi,

I want to added boxes for notes, notes, warnings etc. (like Template:Note) to my wiki installation. Is there a plugin which adds these templates or is the only way to copy all the single templates from this wiki here (by the way: is that allowed?). 188.193.114.128 (talk) 21:37, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

You can use Special:Export to export the template (and transcluded templates which are also required) and use Special:Import on your wiki to import them.
All content should be available under the terms of the CC-BY-SA license, so you should either export the complete history of the template or mention in the summary or template documentation that you got it from here. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:31, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
Perfect! That makes the copying process much easier! Thx! 80.147.161.203 (talk) 09:38, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

Extracting a list of blocked IP addresses

I am trying to figure out to to obtain a list of the IP addresses that have been blocked through autoblock using Blockandnuke. I would like to be able to research the information and also possibly create a list of spammer IP's that continue to attack many Mediawiki sites. Is there a way of doing this? Wikihour (talk) 23:53, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

You could query the ipblocks table on your wiki. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:32, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
All these blocks are inside the MediaWiki database, in the table ipblocks.
Anyway, there are global blocklists, which you might use. These lists should contain a huge number of blocked IPs already. 87.123.36.112 (talk) 09:33, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

Weird Search Result layout issue after upgrade to 1.26.2

Hey Guys,

After upgrading my wiki from 1.16.6 to 1.26.2 the search result lists layout appears to be wrong. I am getting a weird floating Page text Matches section. The previous version used to display these results underneath the Page title matches section.

I have attached a screenshot showing the issue. http://i.imgur.com/rDJnlgm.png

I have tried reloading the skins folder, swapping skins, but the problem remains.

Regards,

Dan Danielrfraser90 (talk) 04:13, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

I know which commit introduced this bug. Sadly, I cannot link it to you due to broken spam filters.
And I think there also was a bug report, which wants to fix this problem again. However, I don't find it currently. 87.123.36.112 (talk) 09:29, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
As a workaround try removing the float: left; from .mw-search-results. 87.123.36.112 (talk) 09:30, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
It has been reported in T122499 but there has been no progress so far. The description shows a workaround. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:36, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks so much guys! :)

Is there a difference between MediaWiki Plugin and MediaWiki?

My hosting site often refers to the "MediaWiki" plugin but I'm not sure that's the same as a full MediaWiki installation? I'm really needing to know for certain they aren't steering me in the wrong direction and wasting my time? OAEPauli (talk) 04:57, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

There is the MediaWiki Core, meaning MediaWiki itself, and there are extensions. I do not know of MediaWiki plugins.
Do you have a link to that hosting site? 87.123.36.112 (talk) 09:26, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

Captcha Made Easy?

My site is http://oldantarcticexplorers.com/

I'm pretty new to MediaWiki and have so far installs of MediaWiki get spammed to the point of overloading servers and taking my site down for days. If you go to it now and it's down, that's because it's getting spammed to the bejesus. :/

My hosting company seems to be pretty clueless as to how to help me as the latest installation seems to still get bombarded with spam.

I'm using WordPress and want MediaWiki installed as a page that my website users can access and add content to without too much hassle (some of the users are pretty old and not to computer savy but have a HEAP of information, stories, photos, documents, etc..., about the Antarctic Program), so I really need for the site to be user friendly and not too frustrating in order to capture a lot of that.

Ideas? OAEPauli (talk) 05:02, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

Is there any possibility to make links to sites outside of a local wiki to open in a new window or tab?

Read-tab when using Visual Editor

Why isn't the Read-tab displayed in the Visual Editor when using the Chameleon-skin? It is there when using the Vector-skin.

Now there is no easy way to cancel editing the page (as far as I can see).

We use Visual Editor with NavHead layout. Waanders (talk) 06:56, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

This may be a design decision made by the Chameleon-skin developers, done with that purpose. Maybe the link is there, but hidden with CSS, in which case you could un-hide it again with CSS. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:42, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

AbuseFilter: changing account's name

Hello. At es.wikibooks we discussed in the past to change the abuse filter account name to a more suitable one. I think that modifying b:es:MediaWiki:Abusefilter-blocker would do the job, but what would happen with this old logs? Shall I rename the account locally too and change the MediaWiki message? Templates for Note / Warning / ... boxes - part 2

Hi,

because it's not possible to write to the original topic anymore, I have to create a second topic (maybe the admins can merge that?):

The export-import method works, but some parts are missing. Of course I've enabled the option "Include templates"! But anyway some parts are missing.

For example: After importing the Template:Note page, all of the colored background boxes, some of the icons and the parameter table are missing. Do you have an idea what the reason could be? 80.147.161.203 (talk) 11:22, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

MediaWiki:Gadget-site.css may help you. Shirayuki (talk) 11:39, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
Thx! How could I add this css-file to my instance? (Using the export / import method creates a "normal" page including the comments on the top of the page.) 80.147.161.203 (talk) 11:57, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
You can probably just copy the needed parts of that CSS to your MediaWiki:Common.css page. See Manual:Interface/Stylesheets:

Hash folders: Why "1/12" not "1/2"?

Why is the second folder repeating the first character? I ask because I want to use a hash folder system for another project. 93.184.128.16 (talk) 14:49, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

Why do you call "1/12" the "second" folder? (And what are complete steps to reproduce the situation and see the same situation? Which MediaWiki version?) Malyacko (talk) 04:52, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
This is intended behaviour as described on Manual:$wgHashedUploadDirectory and OP wants to know why. Subfader (talk) 19:45, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
Any MediaWiki version with local file upload enabled: Folders on the first level have one sign and the subfolders in their own folder name repeat that first sign again. E.g. images/e/e5/my-image.jpg.
I don't know why this is, I only know _that_ this is this way. 87.123.62.181 (talk) 08:49, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
From seeing the subfolder name, you also know, in which container folder you currently are. Just from seeing the subfolder name that would _not_ be the case, if it had not also the first sign in its name again. Makes navigating easier. At least that is one reason I can imagine playing a role. 87.123.26.106 (talk) 20:20, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
Makes no sense. No one is chilling around in server folders enjoying to know where you are. Subfader (talk) 22:44, 23 April 2016 (UTC)

404 error after PHP upgrade

We are running Mediawiki 1.26 and upgraded PHP from 5.3 to 5.6. When trying to access we get error, "Server Error in '/' Application." Renaming LocalSettings.php and going through the setup gives us more errors and not able to complete. Switching back to 5.3 works again. What are we missing?

thank you. Obo juan (talk) 16:00, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

Your error message "Server Error in '/' Application."does not sound like it's an error in MediaWiki. This can e.g. be caused by an error in .NET framwork or by a wrong version of .NET framwork. You should check the stacktrace to get more information on what's wrong! 87.123.62.181 (talk) 16:07, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function mysql_error() in E:\arkeia\wiki\includes\db\DatabaseMysql.php on line 305 Obo juan (talk) 23:36, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
You said you are using PHP 5.6 now. In this version, the mysql_error() function should still be there. (That is different in PHP 7, where it got removed together with the MySQL extension.)
My guess is that your PHP version is currently missing MySQL support. You should check your php.ini/ phpinfo() to see if this is the problem. Make sure that either the mysql extension or better the mysqli extension of PHP is enabled in your installation! 87.123.27.219 (talk) 09:03, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

Problems with Interwiki

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Hello again.

I can't solve a problem with the Interwiki function.

From my Wiki (Version 1.24.2 -> http://wiki.utdx.de), a specialised Hobby related wiki I'd like to have less interesting articles to be linked to the german Wikipedia.

As far as I understood I have to add Interwiki to the extensions and add the lines

require_once "$IP/extensions/Interwiki/Interwiki.php";
$wgInterwikiMagic = "true";
$wgHideInterlanguageLinks = "false";

to my local Settings. That is done.

If I want to relay to German Wikipedia the Code should be (example):

[[w:de:Zugfunk|Zugfunk]]

The special problem im running on is here: -> http://wiki.utdx.de/index.php/Telefunken#Gesch.C3.A4ftsfelder Look for "Zugfunk". You see what I mean?

Did I miss something? Where am I blind?

Thanks in advance and Kind regards.

Thomas Thomas Ingenpass (talk) 17:18, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

At least in the current revision of that article, the link you mention starts with ":de:...". It does _not_ start with an interwiki identifier. That is the reason why MediaWiki creates an _internal_ link out of that source code.
I checked your interwiki table by calling
api.php?action=query&meta=siteinfo&siprop=interwikimap
in your wiki.
It shows that neither "w" nor "de" currently are registered interwiki identifiers in your wiki. If you e.g. want to use the interwiki prefix "de" for a link to the German Wikipedia, then you still have to add an according entry to the interwiki table and then you have to purge the page cache so that MediaWiki renders the page again. 87.123.62.181 (talk) 17:58, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply.
I have added the "de"-entry but it still won't work
Can you please check again what is missing?
Don't you wonder if have added a full link to german wikipedia in brackets on -> http://wiki.utdx.de/index.php/Telefunken#Gesch.C3.A4ftsfelder but the interwiki-entry [[de:Zugfunk|Zugfunk]] won't show...
(
Sorry for being a noob... Thomas Ingenpass (talk) 19:05, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
The interwiki link does not show up, because you are missing the leading colon. Try with
 [[:de:Zugfunk|Zugfunk]]
87.123.62.181 (talk) 19:20, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
Your revision from 19. April 2016, 19:09 contains the correct link. With that link it is working now. 87.123.62.181 (talk) 19:23, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
Ouch!
Now it runs perfect with the only "fault" that it doesn't open in a new window...
I'll look for that... ;)
The following code is added to my Local Settings:
$wgExternalLinkTarget = "_blank";
$wgInterwikiLinkTarget = "_blank";
But it opens in the same window/tab. Any further clues? Thomas Ingenpass (talk) 19:35, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
A variable named $wgInterwikiLinkTarget does not exist. I have not tested it, but there is an option to make interwiki links to a certain target domain local links. Maybe it helps to make sure that for the interwiki link "de", this "local" setting is not set... 87.123.62.181 (talk) 20:46, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
Hi.
The Setting for DE forwarding to de.wikipedia.org... is set as "No local wiki". Did you mean that? Thomas Ingenpass (talk) 20:55, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
Yes, that is the thing I meant. Manual:Interwiki_table#iw_local contains more information on it! 87.123.62.181 (talk) 20:59, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
Does not change the behaviour, poor!
Seems that I have to open another Support-Request...
But many many thanks for helping me on that matter. Greetings! Thomas Ingenpass (talk) 21:02, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
Which file contains the data mentioned? interwiki.sql? Thomas Ingenpass (talk) 21:08, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

How to permanent delete many abandoned(wanted?) pages?

Hello, I'm running a personal mediawiki collecting all information around my projects - works fine.

Now after some years I want do permanet delete some hundreds of abandoned pages, I organized this information in an other way. Doing it piece by piece is a method, but very unsatisfactory.

Sorry, till now I did not find a way how to do it with minimzed work.

I'm running MediaWiki on a Synology NAS station:

- MediaWiki 1.23.13

- PHP 5.6.17 (fpm-fcgi)

- MariaDB 5.5.47

Any idea is greatly appreciated

Michael Micserver (talk) 18:36, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

The maintenance script deleteBatch.php can help with that.
The interesting part then is how you most easily create a list of the pages to be deleted. You will need some kind of criteria, which allow you to select all the according pages. The page on deleteBatch.php contains an example SQL query, which shows the basic principle of how you can create such a list.
Once you have the pages deleted, you can either use the maintenance script deleteArchivedRevisions.php, which will permanently remove _all_ deleted revisions in your wiki. Or you can manually clean the newest rows from the archive table (sorted by ar_id) and run the maintenance script purgeOldText.php to remove the associated rows from the text table. 87.123.62.181 (talk) 20:53, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

A bureaucrat abused his rights

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Hi,

A misbehaving bureaucrat has abused the bureaucrat rights and he’s added himself to the administration group and removed every log entry on my wiki and I can’t restore it (the checkbox is greyed out).

My wiki’s URL: http://os-install-guides.16mb.com/wiki/Main_Page

MediaWiki 1.26.2

PHP 7.0.5 Fifo F (talk) 16:45, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

Your wiki cannot be accessed currently, all it says is "Access denied".
There are several things to talk about:
A bureaucrat _should_ be able to add and remove groups from users. This right can be restricted to certain groups, but it comes down to this: It is a question of trust that a bureaucrat does not abuse these rights. If this user is not trusted, then he should be removed from the bureaucrat group.
Furthermore, you will need database access in order to remove the complete MediaWiki logs. If the user "only" is a MediaWiki bureaucrat, then there is no way how he could remove log entries. He then can grant user rights through the MediaWiki interface and these actions will be logged. That is all. 87.123.27.219 (talk) 17:36, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
I was just able to view your logs. The user in question deleted a number of pages and has hidden certain log information using the revision delete functions of MediaWiki. Looks like you had a vandalizing bureaucrat.
According to the Special:ListUsers page, it seems like you could fix the problem, right? The deleted pages are restored, the user is blocked and apart from him there only is one bureaucrat user now, who is called Admin. 87.123.27.219 (talk) 17:52, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
I appreciate your help!
Your wiki cannot be accessed currently, all it says is "Access denied".
Where does it say so? It works fine for me.
A bureaucrat _should_ be able to add and remove groups from users. This right can be restricted to certain groups, but it comes down to this: It is a question of trust that a bureaucrat does not abuse these rights.
Yeah I realised that after making the mistake.
If this user is not trusted, then he should be removed from the bureaucrat group.
I already did that.
Furthermore, you will need database access in order to remove the complete MediaWiki logs.
I know.
If the user "only" is a MediaWiki bureaucrat, then there is no way how he could remove log entries. He then can grant user rights through the MediaWiki interface and these actions will be logged. That is all.
I was just able to view your logs. The user in question deleted a number of pages and has hidden certain log information using the revision delete functions of MediaWiki. Looks like you had a vandalizing bureaucrat.
That’s EXACTLY what he did!
According to the Special:ListUsers page, it seems like you could fix the problem, right? The deleted pages are restored, the user is blocked and apart from him there only is one bureaucrat user now, who is called Admin.
Yeah I almost fixed the changes.
However I can’t unhide the deleted logs. The checkboxes are greyed out.
I’m glad my wiki prevents guest editing! Fifo F (talk) 19:10, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
The page which you linked only showed a white page saying "Access denied". It is working for me now as well.
The information how log entries can be unhidden again belongs to Help:RevisionDelete. I have not used these features previously myself, but you need the "deleterevision" or also the "suppressrevision" right.
If it is not possible through the MediaWiki interface, you should be able to undo these changes in the database: Check the database table log: The according log entries will have a value in their log_deleted field. Setting this value back to "0" should make the hidden information visible again.
In case of deleted revisions see the rev_deleted field in the revision table. 87.123.27.219 (talk) 19:38, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
Hey, adding the ‘suppressrevision’ right helped! Thanks!

Help, I’m stuck! The vandaliser’s deleted some logs and I don’t know how to get it back!
Click here for screenshot. Fifo F (talk) 19:42, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
See my last response: I would just change the value in the log_deleted and rev_deleted fields in the database. 87.123.27.219 (talk) 20:27, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
I must’ve missed that, thanks. Fifo F (talk) 20:46, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

How to enable SSL?

Hi,

How do you enable SSL in mediawiki site on IIS 7.5?

We have the following server configuration:

WIndows Server 2008 R2

IIS 7.5

MediaWiki     1.26.2

PHP     7.0.5 (cgi-fcgi) Cgol38 (talk) 18:09, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

You have to adjust the value of $wgServer to use HTTPS. The rest (using an SSL certificate, making the server listen on the right port), is a matter of IIS configuration. 87.123.27.219 (talk) 18:25, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

I´m testing the version 1.26, and need make a search that return just pages that contains a complete or part of the term typed, without the content of the pages.

But i´m not getting, does not work.

I tried usind "$wgEnableMWSuggest = true;" in LocalSettings.php, but when i search, nothing is returned. Analistacavanha (talk) 18:12, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

The variable $wgEnableMWSuggest has been removed in older MediaWiki versions. It is not part of MediaWiki 1.26.
I have not checked the source code to see, if there is an option to remove the "Page text matches" from the search result pages. Adding something like the following CSS to the wiki page MediaWiki:Common.css in your wiki might help:
#Page_text_matches,
#Page_text_matches + ul.mw-search-results {
display: none;
}
This code should hide the "Page text matches" headline and the following ul tag, which contains the according hits. 87.123.27.219 (talk) 18:34, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
I did this procedure but did not work. I have a page titled "Process" and in this page, there is the word "schedule". When I do a search for the word schedule, wanted no results were not returned, unless there is a page with that title. Analistacavanha (talk) 19:38, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
You are right, the code contains a logical mistake:
The following HTML code is present on the search page:
<h2><span class="mw-headline" id="Page_text_matches">Page text matches</span></h2>
<ul class="mw-search-results">
<!-- a number of search result -->
</ul>
So from a logical point of view something like this CSS is needed:
#Page_text_matches {
display: none;
}
(h2 > span#Page_text_matches) + ul.mw-search-results {
display: none;
}
I have added the parentheses to show the logic, which would be needed. These parentheses will make the CSS invalid. Off-hand, I do not know, how or if this logic can be implemented with CSS. 87.123.27.219 (talk) 19:50, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
Another idea, exactly as dirty as the CSS I thought about above: Write a few lines of jQuery to remove the accordig nodes from the HTML source code. 87.123.27.219 (talk) 19:56, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
I dont know that is a simple variable of configuration, or is necessary change de code. Analistacavanha (talk) 20:02, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
Unfortunately it did not work.
I have three files here:
mediawiki.notification.common
commonPrint
mediawiki.special.userlogin.common
But I did not understand in what file put these instructions. Analistacavanha (talk) 20:52, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
I got it, after reading the cod docs.
In directory "c:\xampp\htdocs\mediawiki\includes\search", i opened the file "SearchMySQL.php" and at the return of the funcion "getIndexField" i extracted the variable "si_text".
So, when i type anything on search, since that not be part of a title, the page of results show that none term was founded. Analistacavanha (talk) 15:23, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

Nessus Vulnerability on 1.26.2

Hi. I am using MediaWiki 1.26.2. Our Nessus scanner is reporting the following vulnerability. Is there anything I can do to resolve this?

Using the GET HTTP method, Nessus found that :

+ The following resources may be vulnerable to unseen parameters :

+ The 'debug' parameter of the /s26id/load.php CGI :

/s26id/load.php?debug=false&lang=en&modules=mediawiki.legacy.commonPrint

%252Cshared%257Cmediawiki.sectionAnchor%257Cmediawiki.skinning.interface

%257Cskins.monobook.styles&only=styles&skin=monobook&debug=1

-------- output --------

/*

missing"}

*/ 146.137.70.71 (talk) 19:08, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

The name of the Nessus vulnerability is "CGI Generic Unseen Parameters Discovery". 146.137.70.71 (talk) 19:09, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
I am aware that open security vulnerabilities should not be discussed in public, however, I don't see one here, so I am responding here:
Can you explain what the problem with the debug parameter should be? It is checked, whether the value is true and if so, debugging is activated. This is an intended and documented feature. Otherwise debugging is deactivated.
Also it is not clear to me what "unseen parameters" means. Does that mean the kind of parameter duplication as you have it in your link (where th debug parameter is provided twice)? 87.123.27.219 (talk) 19:14, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
https://vulners.com/nessus/TORTURE_CGI_UNSEEN_PARAMETERS.NASL
It detects that adding a debug=1, admin=1 and other predefined parameters causes the output to change, but this one is expected, so you can discard this warning because there's no real vulnerability here. As the page says, Note that this script is experimental and may be prone to false positives. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 19:32, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick responses! 146.137.70.71 (talk) 19:43, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

Error using importDump.php

Hello,

I am trying to import a dump of enwiki on a 1-26.2 mediawiki version (this dump: https://dumps.wikimedia.org/enwiki/20160305/enwiki-20160305-pages-articles.xml.bz2). Using the importDump script, I get a strange error. After searching on the net, I couldn't find any topic which would solve my issue. Could you help me on this? Here below, you'll find the log.

If I understand it correctly this error means that MediaWiki thinks the file you uploaded would be empty. If this is not the case, then maybe you have a permission problem - maybe MediaWiki (or the webserver) is not allowed to read this file? Or maybe you misspelled the file name? 87.123.27.219 (talk) 20:00, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for your answer. I've already seen this one on another issue which seem similar to mine. However, this doesn't solve the problem: the spelling is auto-completed and I tried setting the permissions of "/home" (this is where everything is) to 777 in order to exclude the permissions eventuality. Also, the file "Import.php" isn't empty. Pompoote (talk) 20:11, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
It is not that MediaWiki thinks Import.php would be empty. Instead, it thinks that enwiki-20160305-pages-articles.xml.bz2 would be empty. If you change permissions of the /home/ folder, make sure that you change them recurively also for stuff in subfolders.
Another aspect might be the bz2 compression. Maybe it helps, if you extract the file before you are using it with importDump.php. Jörgi123 (talk) 20:18, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
The issue is fixed, it seems the script doesn't work if I provide the bz2 file directly. Importing the extracted file works. Pompoote (talk) 21:32, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

Search phrases with non-breakable spaces

After process text with MediaWiki:Wikificator.js i've got some text with non-breakable spaces which can't be found by search engine.

Look at text before process: http://wiki.rock63.ru/Test/edit?oldid=15529

And after: http://wiki.rock63.ru/index.php?title=Test&type=revision&diff=15530&oldid=15529

Now can't find "testuniq1 testuniq2", but can if copy with next non-break symbol.

Can it be fixed without remove this symbols? UksusoFF (talk) 20:03, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

The default search engine included in MediaWiki is very limited. If you want something more "intelligent" capable of breaking words and search terms properly, etc, you'll need to install a more robust search engine like Extension:CirrusSearch (currently used by Wikimedia Foundation wikis) or the old Extension:lucene-search Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:38, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

Password reset attacks

I have switched my site to HTTPS, but somebody may intercept password reset email which is not ciphered.

How to protect my site against password reset attacks? VictorPorton (talk) 20:49, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

If I got it right, then the password reset mail contains not only a link to a wiki page, on which you can reset the password, but it in fact contains the new password.
First, I think this password only has a limited validity. And second, if you wanted to exploit this situation, then you would have to be able to read the according network traffic. I think that brings it down to internet service providers, government agencies and to select people in your local network. <s>And the existence of the possibility that this _can_ be done does not necessarily mean that it also _will_ be done.</s> If this kind of abuse is possible, then I think it is only a question of time, until someone abuses it. 87.123.27.219 (talk) 21:31, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
As explained on IRC, you need to ensure your connection to the SMTP server is encrypted, that requires TLS support for the SMTP server Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:39, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

yahoo emails

Hi

I use a yahoo email address through Office to send all my emails.

When I send an email to either a gmail or hotmail account, it bounces back because of yahoo's new DMARC policy.

How do I get around this without having to email directly from yahoo itself.

I/We use Outlook for all our yahoo accounts - we have six - so that we dont have to go into each individually via yahoo. 1.132.96.170 (talk) 04:18, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi and welcome on the SUpport Deesk for MediaWiki, the software used to run wikis like Wikipedia. Your question does not seem to be MediaWiki related. I guess you should better ask in a support forum of Yahoo - they should be able to help you! 87.123.27.219 (talk) 09:05, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

That requires you to change the way lists are styled. This needs to be done in CSS.

password reset on a wiki using whitelist

We have a wiki that uses whitelist and most pages are not accessible without logging in. Some pages are whitelisted. This used to work fine. For about ohhh a year now, the password reset functionality is broken. If a user resets their password, a temporary password is sent. On first login, the user is forced to reset the password. However, that reset password screen is now not accessible, so the user can't finish the password reset. I imagine I need to whitelist a system message, but I don't know which one. Or, is his even deeper in the software so I can't whitelist it? Tenbergen (talk) 19:50, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

Does it help, if you add "Special:PasswordReset" to $wgWhitelistRead?
If not, I would temporarily grant the "read" right again, use the password reset mechanism and see, to which page it brings me. This is the page, which you have to add to $wgWhitelistRead! 87.123.55.67 (talk) 20:00, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
"Special:PasswordReset" is already in $wgWhitelistRead
I set
$wgGroupPermissions['*']['edit']                 = true;
$wgGroupPermissions['*']['read']                 = true;
But still get the error. Tenbergen (talk) 20:12, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
Does anyone know the name of the page where you are sent to after you first log in with a reset password, and where you are forced to change your password? Not the Special:PasswordReset... Setting group permissions edit and read to true isn't enough, so I wonder if maybe even a new permission tag was implemented?
I'd be almost as interested in a work around, I just have to be able to add users to this wiki again. My hosting doesn't allow command line access, so I can't use the PHP script. I can edit the files (eg localsettings) and I can access the DB directly with phpmyadmin, but with the encrypted passwords that does me little good. Tenbergen (talk) 22:02, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
OK, no answers here, hopefully my ticket (https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T121660) will get somewhere Tenbergen (talk) 18:26, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
Ended up that the following had to be set:
$wgGroupPermissions['*']['editmyprivateinfo']         = true; Tenbergen (talk) 20:54, 28 December 2016 (UTC)

Good day,

I try to authenticate against Windows Server 2012 R2. But whatever I tried, it does not work.  Mediawiki is running, and I can login with a local account. But not with an Active Directory account.

I run Mediawiki on CentOS Linux release 7.2.1511, and use the following versions:

$wgLDAPUseLocal = false;

$wgMinimalPasswordLength = 1;

$wgLDAPProxyAgent =  array(

Troubles with SMF Integration

I have lots of confusions with the Mediaiwki SMF Integration, first, there are two different artciles about the same topic, with different codes to use.

-Extension:SMF Auth Integration

-Extension:SMF/Users Integration

Which of them should I use? Second, it seems that these are old articles, there still works?. Third, Does it work in the recent versions of SMF? Fourth, I have tried both codes, but the site simply doesn't work and I don't know why. I have introduced all the necessary information like database information, SMF groups information and other stuff, but it doesn't work. Someone could tell me what should I do? Thanks a lot.

Visual Editor on Ubuntu - please help :/

Hi,

Sorry, I'm kind of new to mediawiki, but have installed mediawiki 1.26 on a site named, say, HELLO.COM, om this site I can reach mediawiki with the full sitename HELLO.COM/mediawiki.

I eager to start editing :), but found that Visual Editor seems to be the choice to take on extensions for editing sites, I have tried for like 2 days now to get it to work, always something that's messes up,

would be really glad if anyone can help me!!! I think i have missunderstod something in the settings file/files.

I have this in /var/www/html/mediawiki/LocalSettings.php

#FOR VISUAL EDITOR PARASID

$wgVirtualRestConfig['modules']['parsoid']['forwardCookies'] = true;

$wgSessionsInObjectCache = true;

require_once "$IP/extensions/VisualEditor/VisualEditor.php";

# Enable by default for everybody

# Don't allow users to disable it

$wgHiddenPrefs[] = 'visualeditor-enable';

# OPTIONAL: Enable VisualEditor's experimental code features

$wgDefaultUserOptions['visualeditor-enable-experimental'] = 1;

$wgVirtualRestConfig['modules']['parsoid'] = array(

// URL to the Parsoid instance

// Use port 8142 if you use the Debian package

'url' => 'http://HELLO.COM:8142',

// Parsoid "domain", see below (optional)

'domain' => 'HELLO.com,

// Parsoid "prefix", see below (optional)

'prefix' => 'mediawiki'

);

and I have this in /usr/lib/parsoid/src/api/localsettings.js

parsoidConfig.setMwApi({ uri: 'http://HELLO.COM/mediawiki/api.php', domain: 'HELLO.com', prefix: 'mediawiki' });

in /etc/mediawiki/parsoid/settings.js (used install apt-get so guess this is my config right?)

parsoidConfig.setMwApi({ uri: 'http://HELLO.COM/mediawiki/api.php', domain: 'HELLO.com', prefix: 'mediawiki' });

/usr/lib/parsoid/src/api/localsettings.js

parsoidConfig.setMwApi({ uri: 'http://HELLO.COM/mediawiki/api.php', domain: 'HELLO.com', prefix: 'mediawiki' });

Which of these files is important :/? If I surf to http://HELLO.COM/mediawiki/api.php I get the api help page and parasoid is installed as well a Visual Editor in extension folder on /var/www/html/mediawiki

Problem with PageNotice

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Hi,

I have just updated to 2.26.2 (from 1.22.2)

The   1.22.2 version is here: http://www.informationtamers.com/WikIT/

& the 1.26.2 version is here: http://www.informationtamers.com/tmp/WikIT/ for the time being.

Most of the wiki is looking fine, but at the top of most pages, I get this:

Warning: OutputPage::getModuleStyles: style module should define its position explicitly: ext.pageNotice ResourceLoaderFileModule [Called from OutputPage::getModuleStyles in /home/informat/www/www/tmp/WikIT/includes/OutputPage.php at line 623] in /home/informat/www/www/tmp/WikIT/includes/debug/MWDebug.php on line 300

Also items in the left column are displaced about 8px to the left, but maybe that's a consequence of the above. The PageNotice does appear as expected.

I have studied https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Project%3ASupport%20desk/Flow/2015/11#h-MW_1.26%3A_How_to_fix_%22style_module_should_define_its_position_explicitly%22_warning-2015-11-27T11%3A20%3A00.000Z which addresses the same error message, but it does not solve the problem for me as the questioner there uses a custom skin and I'm using MonoBook.

skin.json includes this:

"ResourceModules": {

"skins.monobook.styles": {

"position": "top",

"styles": {

"main.css": {

"media": "screen"

}

}

}

},

and main.css is present in skins/MonoBook

I also tried adding the 'position' => 'top', line to

'jquery.ui.datepicker' => array(

'scripts' => 'resources/lib/jquery.ui/jquery.ui.datepicker.js',

giving

'jquery.ui.datepicker' => array(

'position' => 'top',

'scripts' => 'resources/lib/jquery.ui/jquery.ui.datepicker.js',

as suggested by Kc5vcx in that same post, but that did not help.

As my error referred to PageNotice, I then went to extensions/PageNotice/PageNotice.php and found

$wgResourceModules['ext.pageNotice'] = array(

'styles' => array(

'modules/ext.pageNotice.css',

),

so I optimistically added 'position' => 'top' here, as well

$wgResourceModules['ext.pageNotice'] = array(

'styles' => array(

'position' => 'top',

'modules/ext.pageNotice.css',

),

I downloaded and unpacked the latest version of PageNotice when installing MW26.22.2

If I comment out the line require_once("$IP/extensions/PageNotice/PageNotice.php"); in LocalSettings, all is well, except for the loss of my page notice.

All these attempts have been done with &action=purge.

Next, I looked at https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Extension_registration

and tried replacing

require_once("$IP/extensions/PageNotice/PageNotice.php");

with

wfLoadExtensions( array( 'PageNotice' ) );

$wgPageNoticeEnable = true;

but that gave me

Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'Exception' with message

'/home/informat/www/www/tmp/WikIT/extensions/PageNotice/extension.json does not exist!' in

/home/informat/www/www/tmp/WikIT/includes/registration/ExtensionRegistry.php:106 Stack trace: #0

/home/informat/www/www/tmp/WikIT/includes/registration/ExtensionRegistry.php on line 106

From the Manual:Extension_registration I thought it unlikely that just adding an extension.json file to extensions/PageNotice/ would be sufficient to convert the extension.

Too many links?

I was working on a wiki page with a listing of legislation, in which every line had an external link. Wiki Farm setup

Hello to all the wiki fans. I am new and have sent in for a book on wiki. Have already setup a local wiki to play with it and would like to know how to create different instances on wiki on same hosted server along with adding a different database. Did the install with Xammp control panel. The problem is that the instructions in wiki is not so clear. Is there another set of instruction or preferably a video I can what on how to setup the localsettings.php and add new database on one install of mediawiki? Have you read Manual:Wiki family? I fear that is the one documentation, which currently is available on that topic on MediaWiki.org. 87.123.42.56 (talk) 10:03, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

Stop display of 'Preferences' when opening file

When I open any music file, (I'm using 'Foobar') it automatically brings up the "Preferences" window. I then cannot proceed!

This never occurred previously, & I have looked 'everywhere' as to a solution.

Can anyone assist as to information re preventing this "Preferences" window from opening.

Would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

No CSS

Hi all,

I installed Mediawiki on my own server, but when i go to the URL for starting the installation of MediaWiki, there is no CSS... only pure HTML what shows up... Does anyone know anything how to solve this?

Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

I've an error on my main page http://bahai.kg

Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination

But at most other pages same thumbnails is working fine. Please help. PrometheusAla (talk) 17:46, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

In your page, the error message is presented in Russian: Ошибка создания миниатюры: Не удаётся сохранить эскиз по месту назначения. I see it as well.
When this error happens, one of the directories, which are used to store the thumbnails, is not writable. You can fix this by making sure that the directory in fact _is_ writable or by setting a different directory in $wgTmpDirectory; and this directory then has to be writable as well. 87.123.63.183 (talk) 18:03, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
http://bahai.kg/index.php/%D0%91%D0%B0%D1%85%D0%B0%D0%B8 - but at other pages same quotes looking normal PrometheusAla (talk) 18:27, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
I've already using $wgTmpDirectory
$wgTmpDirectory = "$IP/images/temp"; PrometheusAla (talk) 18:37, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
You can temporarily enable $wgShowExceptionDetails and open thumb.php on your browser to force the generation of a thumbnail, like for example http://bahai.kg/thumb.php?w=30&f=Aquote1.png. The output of thumb.php may show you more information.
Anyway, in addition to check permissions on $IP/images/temp, the problem may be on $IP/images/ itself. Be sure to grant write permissions to the server recursively.
The images that are being displayed may be because the thumbnail already exists on the server. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 20:05, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
As I tested problem is exactly in w=30 - http://bahai.kg/thumb.php?w=29&f=Aquote1.png - all other widths are generating correctly )) please help PrometheusAla (talk) 03:50, 26 April 2016 (UTC)
I have tried the URL, with w=29 and it shows the mage with a width of 29 pixels. But the URL with w=30 is working as well; for me it shows the same image with a width of 30 pixels. 87.123.63.183 (talk) 09:01, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

Problem with a copy of my wiki

I have made a copy of my wiki from one hoster to another one.

I have made an copy of all sites and templates with copy and paste the source code.

In the old one i have no problems, but in the new one i have a lot of <td> </tr> </table> errors, and the tables are not right.

What is the problem, why shows me the new wiki so much errors?

Mike 2003:86:AD43:7800:A166:7A9F:392A:4700 (talk) 20:46, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

Hard to say. You might e.g. miss a template, which contains the beginning of a table so that the end shows up as plain text or something like that. However, that is only a guess. It might also be something different.
Generally there are two ways of copying the content of a wiki: Creating an XML dump and importing that dump in the new, still empty wiki. See Manual:Backing up a wiki#Backup_the_content_of_the_wiki_.28XML_dump.29. Or even better, you create a database dump with a tool like mysqldump and import that dump. The mysqldump approach has the advantage that you really keep _everything_: Pages, templates, all revisions, but also users and whatever you have inside the database. When I copy a wiki, I always use mysqldump. 87.123.63.183 (talk) 09:06, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

yup, already done it.
let say i want to use Infobox person and i entered these info
{{ Infobox person
| name = jon
| image         =
| alt           =
| caption       = lalalala
| birth_name    = asdasdaqweqweqwe
| birth_date    =  <!-- {{birth date and age|YYYY|MM|DD}} for living people. For people who have died, use {{Birth date|YYYY|MM|DD}}. -->
| birth_place   = KL
| death_date    = <!-- {{Death date and age|YYYY|MM|DD|YYYY|MM|DD}} (death date then birth date) -->
| death_place   =
| nationality   = MAS
| other_names   = tralalala
| occupation    =
| years_active  =
| known_for     =
| notable_works =
}}
then, the whole page(same like Template:Infobox person/doc) come out instead an infobox.
Thanks. Pronull (talk) 01:18, 29 April 2016 (UTC)

Create an Input Form to Save Data in External DB

Hello, I have a Site on my Wiki where Data from an External Database (a table with Dates of Events) is displayed using Extension:External Data.

Is there any way to achive this? 77.12.207.204 (talk) 01:09, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

MediaWiki is a CMS for documentation, not a front-end for external data. You would need to create a custom extension to provide an interface for editing data of those tables.
Alternatively, use an extension for dates and events already supported by MediaWiki: Extension:Calendar Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:27, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

Maybe your machine is extremely slow, or busy doing other things, or there's a bug in Lua that takes too much time in executing a Lua module. Another cause might be Lua binary just crashing, leaving a popup window about the error, but you may not see it if xampp is running as a service, halting the execution of PHP. Windows event viewer might have an entry about this error if that's the cause, and a good way to start diagnosing the problem. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:32, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi, I'm trying to set up a wiki with several subpages, but the links are too long. I'm trying to fix this problem by shortening the titles of the chapters and subchapters, but I need the breadcrumbs to show the correct title of the chapter.

To be more clear, this is an example of a page:

$wiki/Guida_antico/Aree_ed_elementi_della_descrizione/Area_4/4A

The breadcrumbs correctly show up as:

Home > Guida antico > Aree ed elementi della descrizione > Area 4 > 4A

But they should show up like as:

Home > Guida antico > Aree ed elementi della descrizione > 4 Area della pubblicazione, produzione, distribuzione, etc. > 4A Luogo di pubblicazione, etc. desunto dal frontespizio

I've extensively searched Category:Breadcrumbs extensions to find an extension that would allow me to do so, but I don't find any. Can you please help me? I *really* would not like to resort to do this kind of thing manually. :(

Thank you in advance. Sannita (talk) 15:04, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

db query error when moving pages

I've enabled php and sql errors and this is what Im getting.

Database error

A database query error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software.

* Query: SELECT  /*! STRAIGHT_JOIN */ page_namespace,page_title,page_id  FROM `mw_pagelinks`,`mw_page`   WHERE pl_namespace = '2' AND pl_title = 'PAGE_SOURCE' AND (page_id=pl_from)  ORDER BY pl_from LIMIT 100
* Function: <code>BacklinkCache::queryLinks</code>
* Error: <samp>2006 MySQL server has gone away (localhost)</samp>

This is the error im getting when moving pages. It happens so far in all pages I've tested. Could someone help me with it? Kanecow (talk) 15:04, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/gone-away.html has information about this error, which seems a problem in mysql configuration. If saving/moving a page takes too long (30 seconds or more), it could be a timeout, caused by mysql server very busy or similar. If it happens almost instantly, it could be a serious bug of mysql server which killed the thread executing your query.
About the wrong IP, you must set $wgSquidServers Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 19:04, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
Regarding the Move issue, it's instantaneous, and it didn't use to happen, it started happening out of nothing. So I dont think ive changed anything in the mysql configuration. Kanecow (talk) 21:05, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
> If it happens almost instantly, it could be a serious bug of mysql server which killed the thread executing your query.
Have you checked that? What do you have in the server logs? If the server died, there most likely is at least some kind of message in the logs... 87.123.20.42 (talk) 07:27, 17 June 2016 (UTC)

I am upgrading mediawiki from version 1.18 to 1.26.2. PHP version is 5.4.40, mysql version is 5.5.27. I have successfully upgraded a hand full of our sites with another dozen to go. One thing I have noticed is that external https links do not work. http links do work.

A page that I want to have a link only displays the https url that is not clickable. If I use wikimarkup to change the label then the page displays [https://www.mysite.com mylabel] on the wiki page instead of seeing a clickable mylabel. The protocol-relative wikimarkup does work. So if I use [//www.mysite.com mylabel] I do see a clickable label for both http and https links.

Any idea how to fix this? Tgood2067 (talk) 15:14, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

How can I output the name of the page with the highest number?

I have a template, which should contain a link to a page. The page name of that page contains a version number, e.g. 6.2.22. But in a few weeks, the latest version will be 6.2.23 and then _this_ page should be linked. And later it will be 6.2.24 and then _that_ page should be linked and so on.

How can I have a link, which automatically points to the (existing) page with the highest number? 87.123.47.51 (talk) 22:57, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

There's no automatic way to make links point to the page with latest version number, but there are some alternatives:
  • Create a template that will contain the latest version number, for example, {{LatestVersion}}, and use it in your links: [[Software AAAA Version {{LatestVersion}}]]. You would need to update the template each time a new version is released. You can also use the template outside links.
  • Make a page that's a redirect to the latest version page, and link to the redirect page instead. Each time a new version is released, you should edit the redirect page to link to the new version. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:25, 28 April 2016 (UTC)

Welcome on the support desk for MediaWiki, the software provided by the Wikimedia Foundation and used to create wikis like Wikipedia.
MediaWiki can be used by a number of people to create their own wikis - just like it was in this case. The fact that it was MediaWiki and not another software that was used however does not make the provider of the software responsible for the content which a website might offer.
If a website, no matter with which software it has been made, contains insulting or slanderous information and you want to have this information removed, then you should contact the website's owner or your lawyer to get this matter settled. 87.123.47.51 (talk) 07:48, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
The problem is, the owner of the website is the person that has this information on it; And I have been IP blocked from accessing the site's data in any way... KappaPride12 (talk) 08:09, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
If you tried contacting the owner telling him that you want the insulting or slanderous information removed and he does not care, then ask a lawyer. 87.123.47.51 (talk) 08:29, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
Can't ask a lawyer either... KappaPride12 (talk) 23:27, 28 April 2016 (UTC)

head per default

I need to know how to do that:

One person create a new page. And then i have to go to that page to add an image, because i would like that all the new pages automaticaly have an image on the top, per default.

Some one can help me? Maxedrom (talk) 17:00, 28 April 2016 (UTC)

Your question is not completely clear:
  • Do you want the same picture to automatically be added to all pages? If that is the case, this can be done by using a hook, e.g. with OutputPageParserOutput.
  • Or do you want to have an image upload field, where the user can select a certain image, which he uploads and which then automatically gets linked on top of that one page while there are _other_ images on the top of other pages? For this use case, I do not know of an easy solution. I would say, you need a real CMS for something like that. 87.123.6.96 (talk) 18:42, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
yes i think that could be.
OutputPageParserOutput.
But i read how install the hooks, but i didnt understand. Could you explain me please? Maxedrom (talk) 19:24, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
So for all pages.
After reading up a bit, I would instead use the hook named ArticleViewHeader. Sorry for the confusion, buddy!
You can add something like this to the end of your LocalSettings.php file:
$wgHooks['ArticleViewHeader'][] = 'onArticleViewHeader';
function onArticleViewHeader( &$article, &$outputDone, &$pcache ) {
    global $wgOut;
    // Add wiki text as wanted
    $wgOut->addWikiText('[[File:My-image.jpg|thumb]]');
}
This should allow you to add wiki text to the beginning of all pages. 87.123.6.96 (talk) 21:13, 28 April 2016 (UTC)

Problem with Special Pages?

Hi,

When i go to Special Pages (http://viki.gameofthronestr.com/%C3%96zel:%C3%96zelSayfalar) i see that error. What is mean? I check the directory. Autoloader.php is in the "includes" directory.

Warning: require(/srv/users/serverpilot/apps/gotviki/public/includes/specials/SpecialAllMessages.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /srv/users/serverpilot/apps/gotviki/public/includes/AutoLoader.php on line 90

It is trying to open /srv/users/serverpilot/apps/gotviki/public/includes/specials/SpecialAllMessages.php, but the file is not present at that location, or the server does not have permission to access the file. —TheDJ (Not WMF) (talkcontribs) 19:53, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
File is present at that location. Maybe server does not have permission? How i fix it? Bekircem (talk) 19:57, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
Check the owner and the group of that file! And of all other MediaWiki files btw. The webserver user must be allowed to at least read the file. Usually file permissions of 660 are fine. 87.123.6.96 (talk) 21:15, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
File permissions are 664 or 755.
I can see file owner and group. "serverpilot" both. Because i am using Serverpilot.io with my VPS.
What can i do for the fix that problem? Bekircem (talk) 22:10, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
It's fixed!
SpecialAllMessages.php named my FTP SpecialAllmessages.php. small m. :) I changed that, and it works! Bekircem (talk) 01:41, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
If you had followed Upgrade, this would not have happened. The guide clearly says that you should not copy the new files over the old ones and that old files remaining can cause errors. This is exactly what happened here. Jörgi123 (talk) 10:27, 29 April 2016 (UTC)

Which is the name of this extension?

Hello i need to know which is the name of this extension

I mean aboout the box with the icon of information.

MediaWiki:Newarticletext Maxedrom (talk) 19:22, 28 April 2016 (UTC)

That is not an extension, it is a page that transcludes a template, which makes use of another set of templates and styles called the Message boxes. —TheDJ (Not WMF) (talkcontribs) 19:57, 28 April 2016 (UTC)

Help Upgrading PHP

Is there any way to speak to someone on the phone? Enigma753 (talk) 20:22, 28 April 2016 (UTC)

I'm attempting to upgrade PHP version from 5.5.14 to 5.6.16, everything seems to go fine until I have to restart the Apache2.4 serviceError: Telling us to review the event log: Cannot load pnpapache2_4dll Enigma753 (talk) 20:23, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
There is a webchat at webchat.freenode.net, where you might find people in the #mediawiki channel.
Anyway, is it a typo when you write that the failing file would be named "pnpapache2_4dll"? If that really is what you have in your error message, then you should search your configuration for that string and fix it, e.g. to phpapache2_4.dll, with an h instead of the n and with a dot. 87.123.6.96 (talk) 21:20, 28 April 2016 (UTC)

I would like to submit my companies page for posting

What is the best way to submit a company page for posting? MaxAudience (talk) 17:47, 29 April 2016 (UTC)

For the English Wikipedia, the best way is to read and understand en:WP:Notability_(organizations_and_companies), which constitutes guidelines, which define in which case an article on a certain company is wanted and in which it is not. Primarily this means that there must have been significant coverage in secondary sources. Such sources must be reliable, and independent of the subject. Also there are secondary, alternate criteria. The article, which you currently have in your user space at en:User:MaxAudience does _not_ show that the company would meet any of these criteria.
However, if your company meets the notability criteria, then writing an article makes sense. If it does _not_ meet these criteria, then an according article will sooner or later be deleted again. 87.123.14.64 (talk) 19:13, 29 April 2016 (UTC)

Can anyone suggest what the problem is? 82.1.229.165 (talk) 21:05, 29 April 2016 (UTC)

This error happens when there is no fitting Messages*.php file. MediaWiki then does a fallback to en. Can you check, if your MediaWiki installation is complete? Have you uploaded all files, which are part of the MediaWiki tarball and do they have permissions, which allow the webserver to at least read them? Especially check the folder languages/messages/ for missing files!
I also remember a case where I/O problems with the filesystem caused this error. In that case somehow the language files were broken. 87.123.14.64 (talk) 21:32, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
Fixed that problem, there was some dodgy LocalisationCache configuration directive in LocalSettings.php. Now I have a different problem, which seems to be that some of my extensions are broken. I went into the folder of the one that was reporting itself as broken (I turned on debug logging) and did a git pull, and now the thing seems to be trying to update all the extensions (lots of "Fetching submodule" etcetera). 82.1.229.165 (talk) 22:00, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
OK, everything's mostly working now, had to update the skins using git as well. The problematic extension is ePubExport which I'm guessing hasn't been updated for the current mediawiki version. I tried fixing the error that the debug log was reporting, but while this allows the wiki to load properly now, the extension doesn't function. 82.1.229.165 (talk) 22:33, 29 April 2016 (UTC)

Query on categories and user

Hi,

I'm new on mediawiki and I have a question. I would like to do a query on wikimedia commons to list all images from a definite category and a definite user via an URL. I can request each one separately (query=categorymembers and query=allimages) but I did'nt find how to do both at the same time. I've been spending hours on the manual and I can't see anywhere if it's possible or not.

Someone know how I could do it ?

Thanks Unuaiga (talk) 10:10, 30 April 2016 (UTC)

Use query=allimages to get the list of titles, then send those titles to prop=categories to get the categories the titles belong to, and use that to filter out any titles that aren't in the category you want. 137.147.55.98 (talk) 01:57, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for your answer, but as I have a limit=30 and I use then a "continue", if I filter after the result of the query, the number of pictures won't be the same on each page. I could even have pages with no pictures.
Isn't it possible to filter in the url both category and user ? Unuaiga (talk) 09:13, 6 May 2016 (UTC)
Then user a higher limit, or keep making requests until you have 30 valid results. 137.147.55.98 (talk) 11:38, 8 May 2016 (UTC)
I would like to have, on each page, 30 photographies I took (with my user name) from a definite category. Is that possible to obtain this result in doing only one request ?
If it's not, I will follow your advice and request more photos than I want to display, thanks. Unuaiga (talk) 12:44, 11 May 2016 (UTC)
it's not possible Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 00:58, 12 May 2016 (UTC)

error in my article

hello, i am trying to put my article in spanish (the article is from wikipedia in english) and I am not able to...

Can you help me¿? Discretissimo 11 (talk) 19:21, 30 April 2016 (UTC)

Which article is this about?
Generally, you can just copy and paste the English text into the Spanish page and then start translating it. At a later point, an admin can then import the old revisions of the English text so that they also become part of the history of the Spanish article. At least that is how it's done in the German WP. 87.123.34.27 (talk) 19:31, 30 April 2016 (UTC)

VisualEditor timeOut

Hi, we were using VisualEditor plugin with parsoid server to get rich editor in MediaWiki. Unfortunately few days ago it started to fail and now, I'm unable to edit our pages anymore. It's writing "Database error", so I turned on DB debug mode and got following error:

Error: 1205 Lock wait timeout exceeded; try restarting transaction (localhost)

..no idea what that mean. We have latest stable MediaWiki + latest version of VisualEditor plugin.

Any ideas please ?

Thank you.

"Function: DatabaseBase::query"
..I like to add also the quesry, but this system si bloking me as spam (??)
basically it can't write to "user" table, can't update user_touched. I can update that manually, so table is not accidentally locked Divinorum ari (talk) 20:10, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
I think this is a problem with MySQL and there with the table engine InnoDB.
See http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6000336/how-to-debug-lock-wait-timeout-exceeded for information on how to debug this error! 87.123.34.27 (talk) 20:35, 30 April 2016 (UTC)
A database query error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software.
  • Query: UPDATE `user` SET user_touched = "20160501161258" WHERE user_id = 1
  • Function: DatabaseBase::query
  • Error: 1205 Lock wait timeout exceeded; try restarting transaction (localhost)

So this is happening during an UPDATE query on user.user_touched.
I found this commit from mid 2013, which is included in 1.23 and newer. As far as I can tell, it fixes exactly this kind of problem: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/rMWd3281c2b5cf49027fef27a06a29cfe1e1570bfa1
Which version of MediaWiki are you using? 87.123.49.6 (talk) 18:48, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
I'm using the latest stable, installed just 2 months ago.. tha strange thing is, that everything was working without any problms, until now.. and I have no idea what's triggered this behavior. Parsoid server has not been updated meantime, neither VisualEditor plugin.. so I just updated plugin, but still geting this error. But, just wih Visual Editor - classic editor works well.
I've already tried to make some DB settings changes, restarted DB, restarted Parsoid server, switched off Memcached, but nothing helped.
Just wondering what else should I do :)
Thanks, Ivan Divinorum ari (talk) 20:20, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
..just realized from backtrace, that this is probably triggered by LastUserLogin plugin:
#1 /home/tomisko/Wiki/extensions/LastUserLogin/LastUserLogin.body.php(38): DatabaseBase->query('UPDATE `user` S...')
need to find out, how to disable that to verify Divinorum ari (talk) 20:26, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
Verified - disabling this extension is by-passing the problem. The outstanding question is, how to report this bug :)
Upgrade to latest extension build does not solving the problem. Divinorum ari (talk) 20:42, 1 May 2016 (UTC)

pcntl_wifsignaled() is a PHP function, that needs to be installed/enabled on the server, although it's not listed as a requirement in Extension:Scribunto. I wonder how many shared host provide that requirement. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 10:18, 1 May 2016 (UTC)

Re: Signal 11:
Signal 11, or officially know as "segmentation fault", means that the program accessed a memory location that was not assigned. That's usually a bug in the program.
I'm going to guess that the wrong lua binary is being used. Hmm... Do you have shell access to the machine? Can you run "uname -a" and paste the result here?

Concerns about "Arabic Grammar" article.

I was browsing an article titled, "Arabic Grammar" and downloaded the PDF for the document. I also downloaded a chart in the document quickly without looking it over thoroughly. After I downloaded it, I opened it and notice it had Arabic phrases for "explosions," and "damage." I quickly deleted the PDF article and chart once I saw this and thought I should report it. Someone may want to take care of this or contact the authorities. In the know wiki (talk) 22:03, 30 April 2016 (UTC)

I guess you mean the article en:Arabic_grammar. This article has an image, en:File:Arabic_Noun_Chart.png and this image contains these words.
This image contains a number of words, e.g. explosion and damages, but also the words teacher, children and raised.
However, it is true that many of the words in this image somehow have to do with terror, e.g. damage, explosion, collapse, evacuate, arrest, detention, terrorism. I don't think using words from this wordfield is necessary to explain what this image wants to explain. These explanations can just as well be done with other, neutral words.
I have removed the image from the article for now and I have opened a section on the discussion page en:Talk:Arabic_grammar#Content_of_the_noun_chart_at_File:Arabic_Noun_Chart.png. Please speak up in this discussion, especially, if you have ideas on how to improve this chart! 87.123.34.27 (talk) 10:39, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for the response. I agree that these specific words are not necessary in an Arabic grammar chart. If I have any ideas on how to improve the chart, I will gladly add to the discussion.
Thanks again In the know wiki (talk) 17:09, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
