This has been added as a dependency of bugzilla:17503. Very interesting, where can I understand a bit more about it? For instance, is it already decided that this is the way to go, and is there any concrete plans about it? --Nemo 08:52, 26 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hm, maybe it was wrong to add this as a dependency - there are other ways to implement image metadata handling. But I think using the ContentHandler mechanism is the best choice, and it would be silly to start work on some other way to store structured data before the ContentHandler stuff is in core.
So, to answer your question - it seems to me that this is the best way to go, but there's no official decision. There are no concrete plans, but we have a pretty good idea of how this could be done. I have discussed this a bit with Robla at wikimania too. The general idea is to maintain the meta data as JSON on a subpage of the actual image page, and use the ContentHandler to provide nice rendering, editing, diffs, etc.
I guess this should be written down at meta:Wikidata/Notes/Future#Commons -- Daniel Kinzler (WMDE) (talk) 09:12, 26 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Language

edit

Is it also the way to store the content language for each page? --Nemo 08:52, 26 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yes, the ContentHandler can decide on the content language for each page, by storing it explicitely or in some other way. -- Daniel Kinzler (WMDE) (talk) 09:05, 26 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Alerts pointed here

edit

WMF has pointed to this page in making alerts to the upcoming changes. The page is a little orientated to the geekier, so I have added a little introduction, however, we may be better served by adding some links to some more newbie orientated pages that may better explain the basic concepts. Also the page mentions that it may affect css/js pages, but doesn't give examples, or the sort of things that an error may look like, or some basic approaches to change these, so that may be useful addition, even if linked off somewhere else. — billinghurst sDrewth 13:44, 13 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

What alerts? Do you mean the mailing list posts or something else? If they're from the interface even, the page should be translatable. --Nemo 13:52, 13 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

docs/contenthandler.txt

edit

Since docs/contenthandler.txt was already in almost perfect Wikitext syntax (I only had to remove some linebreaks) I pasted a copy here. More readable than plain text. Chrisahn (talk) 22:26, 8 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Return to "ContentHandler" page.
