Unused files
editWe build a business wiki with MediaWiki 1.81. We have created ~250 articles and link a lot of pdfs.
The syntax is
Example file
When I choose on "Special pages" the item "Unused files", all these files are shown. When I look at the file usage of a file, I read: "There are no pages that link to this file."
I thougt, all these files should not be listed, because they are linked on several pages. Am I wrong?
Upload a file without the toolbox
editHow do I upload a file (or image) if the upload option is not available under the toolbox section?
- Type Special:Upload in the search box. Hamilton Abreu 14:27, 7 July 2011 (UTC)
Filename with special characters do not show.
editHello, Whenever i upload on my wiki an image with special characters in its name (eg Alpiner Gebirgsgürtel.png) it is not displayed afte upload and the file is not accessible. Upload result page shows:
Fichier:Alpiner Gebirgsgürtel.png Pas de plus haute résolution disponible. Alpiner_Gebirgsgürtel.png (948 × 751 pixels, taille du fichier : 1,22 Mio, type MIME : image/png)
If I click on the link :
Not Found The requested URL /wiki/images/e/e1/Alpiner_Gebirgsgürtel.png was not found on this server.
Seems this is a character coding issue . I'm on Windows 7 64 / MW 1.17.0 Phcalle 06:57, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
Documenting problem with colon prefix to :File links
editI plan to add this to the help page Help:Managing files, but first I will leave it here for a while in case I have made a mistake. I have tested in Mediawiki 1.36, 1.38 and 1.39LTS, and I believe this to be true:
A file or image referred to in a wiki page by [[File:Name-Of-File.jpg]] will be listed on that file's page under "The following pages use this file". But if you insert a leading colon and refer to it as [[:File:Name-Of-File.jpg]], then it will not be listed. And that can be annoying, because the leading colon prevents the file/image being rendered, so the user must choose between having just the filename in a page (because it is sometimes a problem to have images rendered) or having all the uses of the file listed on the wiki.
