Today, I caught the attention of this page's history, seeing edits by new users reverted. The page should be fully protected as 1) It is a super highly visible help page (linked from every MediaWiki wikis' login pages and 2) Despite all the protection efforts, there continues to be occasional drive by vandalism from accounts whom, after waiting four days, come here and make disruptive edits. Edits from new users to this page are absolute garbage as every other edit gets reverted.
Help talk:Logging in/Flow
I think the semi-protection is working well enough and there isn't enough disruption to warrant full protection.
I've just added a title blacklist entry to semi-protect all subpages and translations of this page, since they were vandalized 4 times just today (!), which is really getting out of hand.
I can't change the password. It always says, that the channel is not secure to transfer the new password. But I have a SSL connection to the website.
Are you using this form? Special:ChangePassword
I mean on my website. Here I haven't tried.
Maybe MediaWiki doesn't recognize the page as being served by https.
If your website is served by a reverse proxy and behind an internal network, be sure to pass the protocol being forwarded. On nginx you usually add a X-Forwarded-Proto request header with:
proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-Proto $scheme
There is no link to reset password or anything.
this is me
but I can't get Forgot password to send me anything. Has it just been too long since my last login?
I have an account reference. An account number. A password. But not what name should be used even though I have tried my own. What next?
How do i change a User Name?
How do i find a Help page that answers this question?
I've been a member since 2017 and a few times a year i try again. been missing a long time <sigh>
Why cannot i log in?
Maybe your administrator blocked it? I seem to be having the same problem and it only says that its blocked by administrator so maybe ask the administrator to unblock
click the "Stay Logged In" button
I dislike this new (a few weeks old?) feature, when you use the en:middle-click to "Log out" yet it doesn't log out but instead asks you in the new background browser tab: "Do you want to log out?". Can I disable this new function or make it force-log out when "log out" is clicked? I want it to work like it did before for years. Sometimes I like to stay on the page where I log out, so I use the "middle-click log out" strategy to do that on many websites, including Wikimedia.
I just tried to create a new login with Codecs who apparently use mediawiki to create new login accounts. I successfully created a new mediawiki login which (I think maybe?) is intended as some sort of universal login for every project/organisation associated with mediawiki? The process was very opaque to me. I’ve no idea what mediawiki is but when I tried to use this new ‘universal’ login with Codecs it didn’t work because their site didn’t recognise the user name and password. How is this to be fixed? Thanks.
I swear I know my password, but whenever I try to log-in to any MediaWiki website other than the afromentioned, it says that "Username or password is incorrect", I tried checking my cookies and they look allowed, is it related to my username or what?
