Long sentence
editHey @Tgr (WMF), there is a long sentence which used as a long link: "Please check the FAQ section for more information about this feature." Don’t you think it would be better to put the link just for several words, but not for the full sentence? Thank you. — Pacha Tchernof (talk) 20:41, 12 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hello @Pacha Tchernof
- I choose translation optimisation over page setup.
- The idea is to avoid extra steps when translating. If I choose to add a link to a few words, the sentence would be very different, as translators would have to add the link. Adding links or variables is also prone to errors.
- Thank you for your understanding, Trizek (WMF) (talk) 13:29, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
Where are articles for newcomers selected?
editI am trying to figure out how the Homepage of a newcomer looks and who decides where which articles to suggest to newcomers? I am curious how the article on en:WASH ended up as being a suggested article for newcomers, and whether I could remove it from that list. I found that a flurry of edits have been made to the en:WASH article, and many of them not particularly good; creating extra work in undoing or reworking them. So I don't think it's a highly suitable article to suggest to newcomers. EMsmile (talk) 10:16, 5 December 2024 (UTC)
- I have the same question about en:Infinite Ryvius, which has been subject to a storm of newcomer edits. Jonesey95 (talk) 17:37, 5 December 2024 (UTC)
- See en:Special:CommunityConfiguration/GrowthSuggestedEdits for how they're selected. On enwiki you can exclude a particular article from newcomer tasks with en:Template:No newcomer task. * Pppery * it has begun 18:13, 5 December 2024 (UTC)
your tool is a disaster
editTheri usage by newcomers places a burden on other wikipedians. Now I run in another your helper: "k Suggested: add links"
For example The newbies brainlessly click it and add links to Soviet generals and dead actors into "cast and crew"

Repeated words – a warning may be helpful
editPlease consider adding a note to CopyEdit/'Step 3' to warn readers that not all doubled words are mistakes.
For example, in w:Canada–Sweden relations#Cultural and other relationships we have
Canada has Scandinavian studies at at least four universities…
where an apparent pair of repeated words are actually separate parts of two correct expressions on nested gramatical levels:
…at ((at least) four) universities…
