Clarification

Enchant isn't an extension but perhaps a application or package. Might also point out that aspell, ruby and rubygems (and gems install elif) is part of the enchant install. --Skunark 06:42, 21 September 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the clarification. However, the way we use enchant does not require all of that. We are not using it to check English spelling. We are running it against a custom dictionary created out of the words actually in your wiki in order to find suggestions. Perhaps last time I installed it I did not realize I already had everything on my system already, and maybe those additional things are required. Installation walkthrough

The installation instructions feel a little vague. I downloaded enchant with yast and then ran SphinxSearch_setup.php. I didn't see any dictionaries anywhere, though. Where are they generated? And should the dictionaries be referenced elsewhere after they're generated? I also enabled $wgSphinxSuggestMode = 'enchant' in LocalSettings.php, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. The dictionaries were probably installed in the same directory as the SphinxSearch_setup.php or sphinx.conf (which I would guess is the SphinxSearch extension folder). As for enchant not working you need to also install php-enchant and restart apache (or your web server) to include the installed php-enchant library.
