Needs a key

edit

The initiated may not understand what the red links mean, and even I can't figure the ones that are stricken. Lady Aleena 18:38, 21 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Red link means that the wiki doesn't exist, stricken link means that the wiki exists, but the database is locked. iAlex 18:40, 21 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
ACK! I should have said UNinitiated! (eep) A locked database means that editing is not allowed, right? Lady Aleena 18:43, 21 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Exactely. iAlex 18:46, 21 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Another suggestion

edit

There is a list of other projects of Wikimedia at the bottom of this page. Only some of them are open to the public and use the single unified login. Would it be possible to split the list between the public projects and the ones which are private and possibly invite only? Lady Aleena 19:47, 21 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Here is how I would have written the bottom. Lady Aleena 23:18, 25 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

New field in API sitematrix results

edit

With the release of MediaWiki 1.20wmf1, there is a new field in the "site" entries of the API sitematrix results. Here's a portion to illustrate:

<language code="zu" name="isiZulu" localname="Zulu">
  <site>
    <site url="http://zu.wikipedia.org" dbname="zuwiki" code="wiki" sitename="//$lang.wikipedia.org" />
    <site url="http://zu.wiktionary.org" dbname="zuwiktionary" code="wiktionary" sitename="//$lang.wikipedia.org" />
    <site url="http://zu.wikibooks.org" dbname="zuwikibooks" code="wikibooks" sitename="//$lang.wikipedia.org" closed="" />
  </site>
</language>

The "sitename" field is new. I don't really understand its purpose, given that the entries for all projects refer to "$lang.wikipedia.org" (as opposed to, say, Wiktionary entries using "$lang.wiktionary.org"). Does anyone have any information (/link to same) about this change? I couldn't find anything about it on Bugzilla (but that might just be me). - dcljr (talk) 08:37, 20 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Question

edit

I know almost nothing about PHP. I have installed SiteMatrix on my wiki family's "main" wiki (similar to Meta), and I even personalized it via editing SiteMatrix.php so instead of saying Wikipedia, Wiktionary, etc. it says the names of the wikis in the wiki family. But I have a question. How do you add a wiki to the table?

Hi, the easiest way without further knowledge is, using simple code that understand someone, like this:

{| class="wikitable"
|-
! Header text !! Header text !! Header text
|-
| Example || Example || Example
|-
| Example || Example || Example
|-
| Example || Example || Example
|}

instead using code like above, install on your wiki wikieditor and you can past quick such tables. Hope this will help you. Kind regards, Abani79 (talk) 20:40, 15 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Wikimedia sites give incorrect sitenames

edit

I'm not sure if this is the best place to put this, but I've noticed that the Wikimedia sites give incorrect values for the "sitename" field for many wikis. Specifically, most but not all wikis have a value of "Wikipedia" in the sitename field, even if the wiki in question isn't a Wikipedia. Has anyone else noticed this, and is anyone working on fixing it? Thanks in advance. --Montgolfière (talk) 21:52, 22 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
