Extension talk:CustomCategory
Latest comment: 16 years ago by Keith Wilson
Great idea for an extension. I have been looking for something like this for a while now.
Just a couple of minor comments:
- Although the beta version works fine for custom article sort keys, whenever I set a subcategory to have a custom key then it appears in parent category listed beneath an m-dash within the relevant index letter using the regular page name, as opposed to the custom sort key name. I had expected to see the subcategory listed under its sort key alongside other subcategories starting with the same letter, as per article pages, or the normal behaviour for subcategory entries, but this seems an odd mixture.
- I like the ability to selectively enable this behaviour for particular index pages, but would suggest the use of a 'magic word' (e.g. __DISPLAYSORTKEYS__ or {{DISPLAYSORTKEYS}}), rather than linking to a special category, as this would be more transparent to users of the site. A global options to enable the display of custom keys by default would also be useful (in this case a __NODISPLAYSORTKEYS__ option could be used as an override).
Other than that, I think that this is an excellent extension to MediaWiki.

Problem with installation
editI tried this extension with mediawiki 1.13.0rc2 and all I get was the following error when viewing a category-page:
Fatal error: Call to a member function getSubcatCount() on a non-object in /usr/share/mediawiki-1.13.0rc2/includes/CategoryPage.php on line 277
What am I doing wrong?
I am getting the same error
editI am getting the same error when I try to view a category page:
Fatal error: Call to a member function getSubcatCount() on a non-object in /home/skarred/public_html/ttwiki/includes/CategoryPage.php on line 275
I am running MW 1.14.0 -- skarred
wiki ver 1.15
editdoes NOT work with version 1.15.x. when using this extension, category pages return nothing whatsoever.
