Extension talk:ConditionalMenus

The following discussion has been transferred from Meta-Wiki.
Any user names refer to users of that site, who are not necessarily users of MediaWiki.org (even if they share the same username).

Er. Why don't you just use a template? This seems to be a duplication of what they're for, especially considering that a page's category can be set from within the template. -- StoneCypher

You might want to play with it a bit first. It's strong where templates are weak.

Just thought that I should mention how great of an extension this is. I didn't really "get it" at first, I admit. I misunderstood how "Menus" was being used in the title. This is exactly what I've been looking for ever since I installed MediaWiki. It's going to save me an absolutely immense amount of time. Previously I was faced with (even after employing a couple levels of templates) editing 120 different pages in a particular namespace for a fairly minor change. Man, this extension is better than sex.

How long until this is a part of the standard MediaWiki distribution?

Could someone clarify if this is for pull-down menus or just a conditionally-applied set of links?

If it is a pull-down menu, could I suggest interfacing this with the edit page and categories, so that one could, while editing, find categories without leaving the page by using a hierarchical pull down menu which got its contents from the wiki site's category structure? Brettz9 05 August 2005

Bug in script

edit

Hi,

i think i have discovered a bug in this script when dealing with categories. Line 28:

preg_match_all("@\[Category:\s?(.*)\]@isU", @utf8_decode($wgArticle->mContent), $matches);

$wgArticle->mContent should be $wgArticle->getContent()

This is because in some situations mContent is empty due to redirects. getContent() will follow these redirects and get the right content.

btw, im running MediaWiki 1.4.9

Clarification?

edit

Can this be used in the sidebar (wikiname/wiki/Mediawiki:Sidebar)? If so, how? I cant seem to get it to work - all the links just display. To be specific - I have modified my sidebar to include a list of selected categories (representing different clients) and I'd like to show pages within a category when that category is selected - so my wiki users can be moving through pages in, say, CategoryA, but can easily access other CategoryA pages directly from the sidebar without having to go back to the CategoryA index or use the search, kind of like a treeview menu. Also, I'm not following the concept of the <level> tags, can anyone dumb that down a notch?

The Sidebar is apparently a special case. You can make it behave more like a normal wiki page: Manual:Navigation_bar#Wikitext_in_side_bar

Can we have an example of this?

The description is quite dubious. --80.47.141.117 15:31, 6 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Return to "ConditionalMenus" page.
