Install Class?
editSorry if the question is basic, but what is involved in installing Akismet.class.php? Does it simply need to be placed in a specific folder, or is there more involved? Thanks! FrankCarroll 05:45, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

How about a log option?
editRecently installed a few anti spam extensions above and beyond the usual. This one I'm a little skeptical about from the looks of it, but support for services like Akismet is something wikis definitely need. I am surprised its not something with a lot of official support around here.
Anyway, I noticed that Extension_talk:User_Merge_and_Delete creates a log for its activity, like any other log in Mediwiki. It seems like a log of defeats, and additionally a spam/non-spam counter would make a lot of sense to add to this extension. I may look into it myself if I can put some time aside. The log would let admins know how things are going, and a set of counters would be somewhat informative even if the administration decided the logs were not worth keeping around. I don't know a ton about the logs, but I assume they can be emptied automatically if desired.
Anyway, some feedback would make a big diff! --67.54.235.190 19:43, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
- As far as I know, the MediaWiki logs (upload, un/block, un/delete and the like) are kept forever - the only exceptions are special:recentchanges itself (although that data can be reconstructed from permanent database entries elsewhere) and the CheckUser tables. --Carlb (talk) 00:19, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

editbypassakismet doesn't seem to work, nor does it appear in the two PHP files. --99.196.212.65 13:21, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
Link to Akismet.class library is dead
editHi, The link to download Akismet library doesn't work anymore. Where can we find it ? Thanks
Lacks training abilities, severely limiting extension's abilities
editI've spoken to the Automattic/Akismet people and they've indicated for Akismet to be truly useful, missed spam and false positive ham really need to be reported to Akismet to customize the filters for your specific website. Otherwise it's just using the generic global dataset, and that's more geared towards the types of spam seen on WordPress comments given the most popular use case for Akismet. This extension is better than nothing, but its use is limited given the lack of training and the availability of other anti-spam extensions for MediaWiki. Burmaclue (talk) 20:49, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
Does this require to own an Akismet account?
editI am doing "a two birds one stone" since I have a Wordpress site and that would not hurt to have a spam filter like Akismet installed on both the Wordpress site and Mediawiki site. Does your extension need an Akismet account to work or does it directly fetch into their database to function properly? MarioSuperstar77 (talk) 23:41, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
