Translate the HotCat extension if it is available at translatewiki.net

The HotCat extension helps registered users easily remove, change, and add categories to wiki pages. It has a suggestions list that will propose existing categories for auto-completion.

Installation

  • Download and move the extracted HotCat folder to your extensions/ directory.
    Developers and code contributors should install the extension from Git instead, using:cd extensions/
    git clone https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/mediawiki/extensions/HotCat
  • Add the following code at the bottom of your LocalSettings.php file:
    wfLoadExtension( 'HotCat' );
    
  •   Done – Navigate to Special:Version on your wiki to verify that the extension is successfully installed.

Usage

Enabling the extension

Step 1:

 
Accessing HotCat extension through Beta Menu
  • Navigate to the upper right corner of the page (you must be logged in and Beta features enabled) and click on the person and beta icons as shown.
  • This action will take you to the Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-betafeatures page with the Beta Features tab selected.
  • Locate the HotCat Extension in the list of extensions, tick the box to enable or deactivate it. To complete the modifications, click the Save button as shown.

Step 2:

  • On the Special:Preferences page, click on the User profile tab as shown.
  • Scroll down to the Editor section and check the box before Use HotCat for semi-automated categorization. Click the Save button to complete the modifications.
