Analytics/Archive/Management/Management How-To

We're using an approach called Lean Management to drive how we work. The elements of Lean Management [1] (as described by David Mann in his book Creating a Lean Culture) include:

  • Leader Standard Work
  • Visual Controls
  • Standard Accountability Practices

Leader Standard Work

edit

Leader Standard Work is the stuff that leaders need to do on a reliable basis to ensure things are working as expected and advancing our strategic goals. Our current template can be found [here].

For a given role, review the list from top to bottom. For example, the Leader Standard Work for the Director of Analytics includes directions for management routines to be carried out on a given day of the week.

Sheets like these are filled out daily, and saved to the archive.

Visual Controls

edit

Visual controls help us see the condition of the work at any given time. In some cases, we need to see the flow of our work, which means we need to look at the boards of our Mingle project. For example, you can see the flow of work in our current sprint here.

The Leader Standard Work should be the guide to which ones we should be checking and when.

Standard Accountability Practices

edit

Standard accountability practices help us ensure we're doing what we are committed to do in terms of supporting the team and engaging in problem-solving.

Again, the Leader Standard Work should be the guide to which of these sessions to facilitate and when.
