Toolserver:OpenStreetMap/Priorities 2012

This page was moved from the Toolserver wiki.
Toolserver has been replaced by Toolforge. As such, the instructions here may no longer work, but may still be of historical interest.
Please help by updating examples, links, template links, etc. If a page is still relevant, move it to a normal title and leave a redirect.

This page should collect and order the most important OSM-projects on Toolserver for 2012. Feel free to add own priorities or comment it. To see what are the most important projects, it would be nice if you set your name as supporter for project you really like.

This survey is not a commercial market study for a master plan, we are working with volunteers and things will be happen if somebody want to make the work. On the other side we need to manage the limited hardware, so this overview should help.

In the focus are especially projects where we can get benefit for both projects (Wikipedia and OpenStreetMap) because for these projects is the Toolserver the best place in the world. --Kolossos 21:23, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Thank you! Will be happy to support. :) -- Sebastian Sooth (WMDE)

optimize POIs for wikipedia lists edit

More and more lists in Wikipedia are created with geocoordinates, like WikiLovesMonuments results. It would be nice to show on the map the right image for each map. This is only possible with parsing the wikipedia-pages (I'm waiting for Wikidata).

hillshading edit

  • Make it worldwide.
  • Solve the problem with tons of small files in a normal filesystem.
  • Other free projects should be able to re-use this tiles.

Satellite images edit

Layer like that from Landsat would be nice additional feature. But perhaps later, because quality is not so fine and need a lot of storage.
