FAQ on what the VisualEditor will mean in terms of work load for editors/moderators

What will the VisualEditor mean in terms of work load for editors/moderators?

  • Will it mean that editors will have to spend less time correcting, since there will be fewer syntax mess-ups.
  • Will it mean that editors will have to spend more time correcting, since users are limited to fewer functions - and they therefore resort to using these and not the ones that they "should have used"?
  • Will it put extra pressure on editors, now that more people edit (assuming that the VisualEditor will increase the number of people editing, since it is easier)?

All existing tools should work fine, though yes, syntax mess-ups should be much less of an issue.

Hopefully, yes.

We intend to not have users "limited to fewer functions" by the time this is released, so I'm not sure what you mean?

Yes, possibly. Certainly, one of our goals is to remove needing to learn and comprehend wikitext as a barrier to editing, but there are other issues that stop people participating in our community.
