Subpages: always enabled in the User pages?

At Help:Subpages it says that "MediaWiki's subpage feature is turned off by default in the main namespace, but can be used on talk pages and user pages." So I wonder why it says here in Help:User_page that "If subpages are enabled, you may find them useful for creating sub pages under your user page." Am I not understanding something?
Thanks.

Remove this page why?

Why did someone (User:Anonymous Dissident) decide to remove this page? It clearly fits with the goals of Project:PD help, to provide user documentation for MediaWiki software (a "User page" being an important feature which a user of MediaWiki should understand) I spent an hour or so writing the content for this page. It is my own work, which I release to the public domain. -- Harry Wood 01:06, 11 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ahh, my apologies. I was not aware that it was being done as part of that project (which I was not aware of anyway). Sorry for that. But I must ask you - does this not seem superfluous wen there are relatievly similar pages on the same topics on Meta? This site is supposed to be for the documentation of the software. --AnonDiss 01:45, 11 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Actually I was forgetting to add the {{PD Help Page}} template at the top. That makes it clearer.
Superfluous? Well it will seem that way for some of these pages yes. A lot of these topics have written about before elsewhere (especially on meta). But we're aiming to write a bunch of pages as a nice concise bit of user help, which is released to the public domain. Unfortunately the PD requirement means we have to write about these topics again from scratch. Shouldn't be too much effort though. We're not covering the larger and more complex, server administration topics (Project:Manual)

Link and user page

Does anyone know how to create an in-wiki link that will go to the user page of the person that clicks on it?

I tried [[Special:user]] and it didn't work.

Special:MyPage does it. Hamilton Abreu 15:35, 2 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

"404 - File or directory not found." error when I clicked the user name

Anybody knows why I got "404 - File or directory not found." error when I clicked the user name? Even this page is not there, it is supposed to create a new user page. Am I right?

My version info is: MediaWiki 1.15.3 PHP 5.3.2 (cgi-fcgi) MySQL 5.1.46-community

And I installed AutomaticREMOTE USER (Version 1.1.1) to authenticate intranet user.

Thanks,

20140110 - I am experiencing the same issue, I believe the problem is that logging in using REMOTE_USER does not go through the standard user creation process for mediawiki, which is when the user pages are created. The 404 is a standard response for non existent pages (no wiki content), unfortunately this is a bit of a problem for me because we access our wiki through a reverse proxy which displays error messages when it gets a 404. The user page issue can be "solved" by manually creating the user page, but for other 404 pages, the more permanent work around is to change the response code to 200 as shown below

Redirect user page to different url?

Hello. I am running a forum on my wiki. I was wondering if there was a way to make it so the wiki user page of users is forwarded to the forum user page of the user so that there is only one user page for the site. Thanks

I've had the same problem (mediawiki-1.16.1). Making a wireshark trace I noticed that the HTTP message (with body containt) had a response "code 404". In a previous version (mediawiki-1.12.0) this used to be a message with response code "200 OK". To solve this problem I've changed line 1281 in this file: includes/Article.php from: $wgRequest->response()->header( "HTTP/1.x 404 Not Found" ); to: $wgRequest->response()->header( "HTTP/1.x 200 OK" );

Mention: consider putting some contact information on your user page, in case somebody wants to contact you about your writings, but you no longer monitor your wiki alerts, etc. Jidanni (talk) 08:05, 13 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Is it possible to block other

According to the help page: "It's generally considered bad etiquette to rewrite or reword another person's user page". But is it actually possible to block other users from writing in a user page other than their own?
